Country Star Jelly Roll Reveals Jaw-Dropping 200-Pound Weight Loss
Jelly Roll has shared plenty of stories in his music, but few are as raw and determined as the one he's been living offstage, a years-long fight that has reshaped his body, his habits, and, most recently, his message to a room full of professional athletes.
Country music star Jason De-Ford, popularly known as Jelly Roll, has stunned fans by revealing he has lost 200 pounds, a transformation he shared while delivering an impassioned speech to the Tennessee Titans ahead of their 10-day preseason road trip.

Speaking from the heart, the Nashville native reflected on his roots and the pride he feels for the city's growth, crediting the Titans as a major part of its identity. He likened the team's upcoming time on the road to his grueling tour schedule, which keeps him away from home for about 300 days a year, traveling by buses, trains, planes, and vans.
"That's where the magic was for us," DeFord told the players, explaining that the bonds formed offstage translated into better performances. "Find a partner, finding a friend, building a relationship, building strength, building community—that stuff will translate to the field."

He added that his artistic growth was tied to becoming a better husband, son, and human being, crediting small but meaningful changes, like prioritizing his mother's calls, for opening doors in his life. He praised the dedication of players such as Jeffery Simmons, who got in shape during the offseason, and Cam, who wakes up at 4 a.m. to train.

Urging them to use their road time to strengthen personal bonds, he joked, "Y'all are stuck with each other. This is the time, more than ever, to get to know each other's grannies."
It was then that the singer revealed his dramatic weight loss. "I ride for this team. I can't get to the field, but I'm close. I lost 200 pounds," he said, teasing the coach that he might earn a contract if he shed another 50.

The country star has spoken publicly about his weight loss journey in other appearances. On April 10, 2025, during an interview with Pat McAfee at the "Big Night Aht" event, DeFord shared that he once weighed 540 pounds but weighed 357 pounds at the time.

His next goal was to lose another 100 pounds so he could go skydiving with his wife in Sweden, a dream that drew cheers and applause from the audience. His progress has been documented both by the media and on his social media platforms, where he has kept fans updated as a form of public accountability.
In a past interview with People, DeFord described the mental and emotional challenges behind his transformation. "The battle was with the food addiction, changing the way I've looked at food for the last 39 years,” he said.
He added, "I've never had a healthy relationship with food, so that was the hard part. But once you get into that discipline and commitment, it's like an avalanche. Once that little snowball started rolling, it was on its way."

DeFord's weight struggles are something he has been open about for years. In a 2018 Instagram post, he recalled weighing over 500 pounds in 2015, so much that a doctor's scale couldn't register it. He described it as one of the most embarrassing days of his life, admitting that he coped with the news through more food, drugs, and alcohol.

By late 2016, he began fighting to save his own life, losing roughly 200 pounds, though the journey was slow and full of setbacks. He confessed to regaining 60 pounds after falling back into unhealthy habits during touring, but he recommitted to the fight. He launched "Fatman Fridays" on YouTube to track his progress and enlisted fitness mentors and friends to help him along the way.
With his health journey and heartfelt message, Jelly Roll has proven he isn't just a country star but also an inspiring figure, motivating both the Titans and his fans to invest in connection, culture, and personal growth.
