A Canadian travel influencer couple, Matthew Peter Yeomans and Stacey Tourout, died on August 7, 2025, after an off-road vehicle accident in the mountains of British Columbia, according to a joint statement from their families.

The pair, known online as Toyota World Runners, were celebrated for documenting their global overlanding adventures. Their last Instagram post, shared on August 5, 2025, before their deaths, reflected on their first summer in years experiencing Vancouver Island’s seasonal changes, writing:

"Really just soaking up all of these Vancouver island summer juices. Our first summer in a few years where we get to experience the seasons change and the joy the sun brings us soggy rainforest dogs as we come out of hiding [sic]."

Stacey's mother, Colleen Tourout, described the loss as a "devastating end to an amazing Love Story" and said, "They are together forever as we knew they would always be."

Rescue crews reportedly responded to the scene after the couple's vehicle left the road during a mountainous drive. Manager Mark Jennings-Bates explained that the crash occurred on a remote forestry road in the mountains, far north in the valley on the way to Trout Lake.

Rescue crews managed to reach the couple quickly despite the distance, allowing a helicopter pilot to head directly to the site knowing the location had been confirmed. But one of the pair was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other died after being taken to the hospital.

The exact circumstances remain under investigation, though early indications suggest they may have lost control of their vehicle on the uneven mountain road.

Fans, friends, and fellow travelers have flooded the couple’s social media pages with tributes. One Instagrammer wrote, "This is one I don't want to believe. Life is fragile man.. Rest easy to both of y'all. I found your videos kinda late with some KOH content and now I'm halfway through the pan-America trip. My heart goes out to family and friends [sic]."

Another shared, "I can't believe what I just heard. Rest in peace both of you - I love you guys. You will both be missed [sic]!" Others expressed shock and grief at the sudden news, with one person commenting, "Can't be real. Rest easy you guys. The world will miss your adventures [sic]," followed by another response, "dude I'm speechless right now [sic]."

A fellow content creator paid tribute in a lengthy post, recalling years of online conversations with Matthew and near-meetings that never quite happened.

Their Instagram page states that the couple created Toyota World Runners. They became known for designing the first Land Cruiser Chinook. Together, they built expedition vehicles and journeyed across the globe, traveling a route that spanned from Canada to Argentina.

According to their YouTube page, the couple transformed the Land Cruiser Chinook in just 100 days before embarking on a Pan-American expedition and further travels. Their journey became a chronicle of exploration, self-discovery, and the pursuit of a meaningful life, inspiring a community of like-minded adventurers.

Their deaths mark the end of a journey that touched countless lives, both online and off. While their travels have been cut short, the stories they shared, the places they explored, and the connections they fostered continue to inspire those who followed their path.
