1. John Lennon Signed an Album for His Killer Hours Before He Died
On December 8, 1980, John Lennon signed a copy of "Double Fantasy" for a fan — Mark David Chapman — outside his New York home. Hours later, Chapman shot him five times in the back as Lennon returned with his wife, Yoko Ono.

2. Charlie Kirk Was Shot While Speaking at a University Event
Kirk, 31, was gunned down on September 10, 2025, while speaking at Utah Valley University. The conservative activist was mid-speech at a Turning Point USA event when shots rang out.

3. Daniel Williams Died in a Plane Crash Over a Residential Area
Williams, former drummer for The Devil Wears Prada, died in a 4 a.m. plane crash on May 22, 2025, in San Diego. The collision set fire to a Navy-owned neighborhood, injuring several and destroying a home.

4. Ozzy Osbourne Performed One Last Time in His Hometown

5. Anne Burrell's Death Was Ruled a Suicide by Acute Intoxication
Burrell was found unresponsive in her Brooklyn home on June 17, 2025. The medical examiner later confirmed suicide by acute intoxication from a mix of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine.

Goodall died of natural causes while on a speaking tour in California. The Jane Goodall Institute shared the news on October 1, 2025. She was due to speak at UCLA and George Washington University in the days ahead.

Keaton, 79, was found unresponsive at her California home on October 11, 2025, at 8:08 a.m. Paramedics rushed her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

10. Freddie Mercury Spent His Final Days Recording with Queen
Mercury died from AIDS-related complications on November 24, 1991, in London. One day earlier, he confirmed his diagnosis. Despite illness, he still recorded with Queen until shortly before his death.

11. Ayrton Senna Died in a Crash During the San Marino Grand Prix
Senna died on May 1, 1994, during the San Marino Grand Prix. His car hit a wall at 145 mph at the Tamburello curve. Senna, 34, died soon after. A day earlier, driver Roland Ratzenberger had also been killed.

12. Michael Jackson Died After Receiving Propofol from His Doctor
Jackson, 50, died on June 25, 2009, from propofol intoxication, given by his personal doctor, Dr. Conrad Murray. In 2011, Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. Jackson died just before the start of his comeback tour, "This Is It."

13. Chester Bennington Was Found Dead at a Private Residence
Bennington, 41, died by suicide on July 20, 2017, in Los Angeles County. The coroner confirmed death by hanging. His body was found at 9:00 a.m. on the birthday of his late friend, Chris Cornell.

14. James Dean Died in a Collision on His Way to a Race
Dean, 24, was driving to a race in Salinas on September 30, 1955, when a Ford Tudor cut into his path. Witnesses said he wasn't speeding, but he suffered massive injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival.

15. Steve Irwin Died After a Stingray Attack During Filming
Irwin, 44, died on September 4, 2006, while filming off Australia's Batt Reef. A stingray's barb pierced his chest in what his crew called an unprovoked attack. Irwin was pronounced dead shortly after.

16. Pope Francis Requested a Simple Burial Before His Death
Pope Francis died at 7:35 a.m. on April 21, 2025, at his Vatican residence. The cause: stroke and heart failure, confirmed by ECG testing. He had requested to be buried in a simple, unadorned tomb. He was 88.

17. Robin Williams Was Last Seen the Night Before He Died
Williams, 63, was found dead in his Tiburon, California, home on August 11, 2014. Authorities arrived just before noon. The cause was suicide by asphyxiation. He was last seen alive at 10 p.m. by his wife.

18. The Challenger Crew Was Lost Moments After Launch
On January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded 73 seconds after launch, killing all seven crew members. A leak in the Solid Rocket Booster ignited the main tank. The disaster aired live, shocking millions.
