The Beckham family often appeared united in public. But behind the scenes, a long-running rift has reportedly grown between David and Victoria Beckham's son, Brooklyn, 26, and his wife, Nicola.

New details now shed light on the family's efforts to repair the relationship. Brooklyn also addressed the situation in an Instagram Story, explaining why he has stayed away from recent family events.

According to People magazine, David and the 51-year-old fashion designer have been making repeated efforts to reconnect with Brooklyn and Nicola. The couple has reportedly tried to open communication with their son and daughter-in-law on several occasions.

"David and Victoria have repeatedly asked Brooklyn and Nicola to meet and talk in order to move forward," a source familiar with the situation told the publication.

Tension between the two couples is believed to have started around the time of Brooklyn and Nicola's wedding in 2022. While the specific cause has not been confirmed, the aftermath appears to have created lasting distance within the family.

Amid the ongoing tensions, the retired athlete is deeply committed to his role as a father to Brooklyn, Romeo, 23; Cruz, 20; and Harper, 14. A source said his children are central to his life.

That same commitment was reflected in November 2025, when David was knighted by King Charles III for his contributions to sport and charity.

Brooklyn and Nicola were invited to both the official ceremony and the private celebration that followed. According to sources, the invitation was in keeping with the family's ongoing efforts to include them in significant moments.

Neither David and Victoria's representatives nor Brooklyn's team reportedly responded to requests for comment.

How Contact Changed

Further reporting by The Sun revealed more details about the communication breakdown, including a source's claim that much of the public does not know the full story.

"Truly, people do not know the full facts of this heart-breaking tale, and think Brooklyn was just being truculent when he blocked his parents," the source said.

According to the source, Brooklyn sent a letter in late summer 2025, requesting that all correspondence go through lawyers as he "wanted to try and make amends privately not publicly."

The same source explained that Brooklyn became increasingly frustrated after sending the letter, as he believed his parents continued to refer to him publicly rather than respecting his request for private communication.

With no direct line of contact remaining, David and Victoria were reportedly left without a way to respond, which, according to the source, caused emotional strain.

"They of course feel utterly bemused and devastated by this latest turn of events. There is no malice from their part, only concern," the source said. "But it is clear, if there is going to be any reconciliation, it will be away from prying eyes and must be done privately."

The remarks came shortly before Brooklyn publicly addressed the situation himself.

What Brooklyn Shared Online

Brooklyn has broken his silence on the ongoing rift with his family, sharing a detailed statement through a series of posts on Instagram Stories.

In the message, he firmly stated that reconnecting with his parents is not something he is pursuing and that his decision reflects his personal choice.

"I do not want to reconcile with my family. I'm not being controlled, I'm standing up for myself for the first time in my life," he wrote.

He also shared new details surrounding his 2022 wedding to Nicola, claiming that tensions began when his parents allegedly tried to influence his legal and financial decisions ahead of the ceremony.

"My parents repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe me into signing away the rights to my name," he said, explaining that the deal, had he accepted it, would have had implications for his wife and future children.

He added that things changed after he declined to sign. "My holdout affected the payday, and they have never treated me the same since," he said.

Brooklyn also described a moment on his wedding day involving his mother. A first dance with Nicola had reportedly been planned as part of the event, but it was unexpectedly disrupted when Victoria took the stage in her place.

According to Brooklyn, his mother danced "very inappropriately" on him in front of hundreds of guests. "I've never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life," he recalled.

He added that this contributed to their decision to renew their vows in hopes of creating more positive memories of the occasion.

In another part of the post, Brooklyn addressed his absence from David's 50th birthday. He said he and Nicola traveled to London in an effort to spend time with his father, but were unable to arrange a private meeting.

When contact was eventually made, Brooklyn claimed the invitation came with one condition: Nicola would not be allowed to attend.

He said the only opportunity offered was at a large public birthday party with over 100 guests and media coverage, which he declined. "It was a slap in the face," he wrote.

He went on to say that Nicola has faced ongoing disrespect from his family, citing specific incidents he believes were intended to create discomfort. He also claimed that when his family later traveled to Los Angeles, they refused to meet with him.

Brooklyn further alleged that public image has been prioritized over private connection. He recalled years of appearing at events to help maintain what he described as the family brand, while claiming personal efforts were often dismissed.

As an example, he said Nicola once asked Victoria for help rescuing displaced dogs during the Los Angeles wildfires, but the request was denied, something he saw as part of a larger pattern.

Brooklyn also responded to ongoing rumors about his marriage, saying speculation that Nicola controls him is inaccurate. Instead, he described years of feeling constrained by his family and said he only found peace after stepping away from those dynamics.

He closed the post with a brief statement about what matters most to him and Nicola. "My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, press, and manipulation. All we want peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family," he wrote.

In the days ahead of the now widely reported fallout, earlier coverage pointed to signs of growing strain.

Beginnings of the Fallout

As previously reported, Brooklyn had reportedly blocked his family on Instagram, fueling speculation that tensions between the eldest Beckham child and his parents had already reached a breaking point.

Brooklyn had not been seen publicly with his family since the previous Christmas. Tensions appeared to reach a new height after his younger brother, Cruz, took to social media to call out a widely circulated report that suggested their parents had unfollowed Brooklyn online.

"NOT TRUE," Cruz wrote under a screenshot of the headline, which claimed Brooklyn had been "unfollowed" and "estranged." He continued, "My mum and dad would never unfollow their son.. Let's get the facts right. They woke up blocked… as did I."

Despite Cruz's public pushback, reports at the time suggested the distance between Brooklyn and the family had continued to grow, both figuratively and literally.

It was reported in May that Cruz had been deliberately steering clear of his brother, allegedly contacting their go-to family spots in advance to ensure Brooklyn wouldn't be there.

That same month, Brooklyn shared a video of himself and Nicola riding through the streets of Los Angeles on a motorbike, paired with a heartfelt caption pledging his loyalty to her.

Although the post didn't reference his family directly, it appeared to signal where his priorities now lay. One family source described the moment as "a dagger to their hearts," adding, "This isn't the Brooklyn his family knows and loves."

Despite the clear distance, a source close to the Beckhams insisted the door remains open, dismissing the feud reports as "nonsense." They continued:

"David and Victoria will always support Brooklyn if and when he needs it."

Public Reactions Online

Online, the drama has sparked mixed reactions. Several weighed in with sarcasm and criticism, as one person said, "Maybe they should block his allowance. Hell be fine. He's a chef, a photographer, a musician. He must be so rich with his success will showing how to make beans on toast [sic]."

Another joked, "Ah, the good old Christmas family feud! Nothing like it! Enjoy!" while someone else simply commented, "Tragic."

The comparisons to the royal fallout between Prince Harry and King Charles also surfaced, with one netizen commenting, "It's giving Prince Harry," and another adding, "Mmm, didn't Harry do the same, to King Charles and the Royal Family [sic]."

Other netizens were more sympathetic to the Beckham parents. One comment read, "What a sad young man. No one can replace your mom and dad."
