Jennifer Rauchet's White House Event Look Creates Social Media Frenzy — Photos
A dress worn to one of Washington's most high-profile nights of the year ended up at the center of an online debate.
On April 25, 2026, Jennifer Hegseth (née Rauchet) attended the White House Correspondents' Dinner at the Washington Hilton alongside her husband, Pete Hegseth, the U.S. Secretary of Defense.
She wore a pink-nude off-the-shoulder gown, and two days later, someone on the internet recognized it from a retailer that isn't exactly a designer.

An Eye-Catching Dress at the Correspondents' Dinner
Pete and Jennifer were all smiles at the event, while posing for the cameras. Her dress featured asymmetric satin detailing and rhinestone embellishment that gave it enough shine for the black-tie evening.

But on April 27, X netizen Ella Devi posted side-by-side images of Jennifer in the gown and the same dress listed on Temu, writing, "pete hegeseth's wife wore a dress from temu to the white house correspondents dinner (i'm not joking) [sic]."

The listing she referenced priced the dress at roughly $14. A nearly identical version is also available on Shein for around $42, and the Daily Mail confirmed it had also been found on Amazon.
Devi received a myriad of different comments on this claim, including some suggesting that Temu was known for copying designer outfits.
Therefore, in the same thread, she responded, "'wah wah wah temu steals designs!' a) THIS dress design ORIGINATED on temu/shein b) hard for me to believe it's not from temu given that the primary retailers of her bag are amazon and aliexpress."

What the Comments Actually Said
Despite her response, most people online weren't concerned with where the dress came from. On Facebook, one commenter had just a mild critique, "The model definitely wore it better. His wife couldn't do the waist."
But that was more or less the lone dissenting voice. From there, the tone shifted firmly in Jennifer's favor.

"She looked very elegant in her Temu dress. I buy their dresses and skirts all the time, you just have to study the sizes," one person wrote.
Another put it plainly, "What difference does it make where the dress came from and how much it cost.. she made the dress look like a million bucks [sic]..."

Over on another Facebook post, the vibe was similar. "I love that she didn't spend $2k on a dress...good on her 😁," one person commented.
A separate netizen added, "So much better than shower curtains and tablecloths, don't you think?"
Another wrote, "I think it's nice,at least she wasn't flashing most of her body in almost naked outfits like some celebrities do [sic]."
This Isn't the First Time
The Correspondents' Dinner look may have drawn the most attention, but it fits a pattern that Jennifer has apparently been building for a while.
When Pete was sworn in as the 29th U.S. Secretary of Defense on January 25, 2025, Jennifer showed up in a long-sleeve lilac ensemble. A comparable dress currently sits on Shein for around $32.92.
At a state dinner last November, she stepped out in an emerald floor-length off-the-shoulder gown with colorful patterns. A similar style is listed on the same retailer for roughly $76.29.
Going back even further, a June 2024 Instagram post showed Jennifer in a white wrap dress printed with blue palm leaves, standing alongside Pete and Donald Trump. A nearly identical outfit can be found on Shein for around $16.95.
But whether these dresses are actually from these kinds of stores remains to be seen. Either way, they look fantastic on her. Unfortunately, Jennifer and her husband didn't get to enjoy the evening they had gotten so dressed up for.
A Recap of Saturday's Incident
In case you missed it, the 2026 White House Correspondents' Dinner at the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC, turned into chaos when an armed man stormed a security checkpoint, sending attendees diving for cover and Secret Service agents into emergency mode.
The president and First Lady Melania Trump were "whisked away" in the commotion, and the president later admitted he had no idea how serious the situation was at first. "I thought it was a tray that clattered on the ground," he told reporters at a hastily organized press conference at the White House afterward.
President Trump said he and his team had no prior warning of any threat. "We wanted to stay tonight," he added. "I fought like hell to stay."
The incident unfolded at approximately 8:35 p.m. ET, when shots were heard inside the Washington Hilton, and guests scrambled for safety. Shortly after, Secret Service agents rushed to President Trump and escorted him and Cabinet members out of the room.
Among the witnesses: CNN's own Wolf Blitzer, who was standing outside the ballroom when he saw a gunman open fire just a few feet away. He was among dozens of attendees who took cover as law enforcement swarmed the scene.
One US Secret Service agent was shot and struck while wearing protective gear. The agent was hospitalized, though President Trump later said he personally spoke with them and they are in "great shape" thanks to their bulletproof vest. According to DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, no one else was injured.
At 9:17 p.m., President Trump made his first public comments, posting on Truth Social that the alleged gunman "has been apprehended." He followed that up at 10:29 p.m. with footage that appeared to show the start of the shooting, along with a photograph of the suspect face-down on the ground, hands behind his back.
By around 10:50 p.m., US media, including CBS, had named the suspect.

President Trump posted to social media a photo of law enforcement detaining a suspect in the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night
At 10:30 p.m., the president held a formal press conference from the White House alongside FBI Director Kash Patel and Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche. He described the suspect as what appeared to be "a lone wolf."
Shortly after 11:10 p.m., live images began emerging of FBI agents assembling outside a home in Torrance, a suburb of Los Angeles, linked to Allen. A police perimeter was established as a large number of media and law enforcement gathered at the scene.
A next-door neighbor, who did not wish to be identified, told CNN he wasn't sure if Allen actually lived at the property. He said he didn't see him often, but Allen had been there "a couple of days ago." The neighbor added that Allen's father is friendly and chatty, and that the two spoke frequently.
Meanwhile, US Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro announced the formal charges: using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon. Allen is set to be arraigned in federal court on Monday.
So who exactly is Allen? The picture that emerged was a striking contrast to the chaos he allegedly unleashed.
According to public records and a LinkedIn profile, Allen is a part-time teacher at C2 Education, a test prep and tutoring company, and was actually named the company's "Teacher of the Month" in December 2024. He is also described as a video game developer from Southern California.
Academically, Allen is no slouch. He graduated from the prestigious California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, then earned a master's degree in computer science from California State University-Dominguez Hills just last year.
Interim Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department Jeffery Carroll confirmed at a press conference that Allen was armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives when he "charged" a Secret Service checkpoint and "exchanged fire" with law enforcement. Carroll added that police believe Allen fired a shot based on "preliminary information."
Crucially, Carroll also revealed that Allen is believed to have been a guest at the Washington Hilton, meaning he may have had legitimate access to the event before allegedly opening fire. Police have "secured a room" at the hotel to determine what was inside.
Authorities said Allen was not struck by gunfire during the confrontation but was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment. Mayor Bowser stated there is "no reason to believe at this time that anyone else was involved."
FBI Director Kash Patel said investigators will be looking "thoroughly" into Allen's background and urged the public to share "any information whatsoever related to this event." The FBI is examining ballistics and a long gun recovered from the scene and is actively interviewing witnesses.
And then there's this: Federal Election Commission records show that Allen donated $25 to Kamala Harris' presidential campaign in October 2024, a detail that was quick to fuel speculation about motive, even as investigators were careful not to jump to conclusions.
President Trump, when asked whether political violence concerns him, gave a characteristically candid response: "I am concerned, but I cannot be too worried because being president is 'a dangerous profession.'"
He said the shooting "unified" the room.
As for the White House Correspondents' Dinner itself, it will be rescheduled. The president promised the rescheduled event will be "safer," and we have little doubt the security operation next time around will be unlike anything Washington has seen before.
