Serena Williams Makes Her Wimbledon Return in a Striking Eyelet Nike Outfit — and Her Daughters Steal the Moment in the Stands — Photos
The tennis icon stepped back onto the grass after years away, and her outfit wasn't the only thing turning heads.
Serena Williams returned to Wimbledon on June 30, 2026, facing 20-year-old Australian Maya Joint in her first singles match at the All England Club since 2022.
Between her eyelet-covered kit, a ring that had fans wondering how it was even possible to play, and two little girls cheering from the stands, there was almost too much to take in.

Back on the Grass After Years Away
Wiliams hadn't played a Wimbledon singles match since the 2022 US Open, so her wild card entry alone was reason enough for attention. She fought hard against Joint, pushing the match to a third set before falling 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3 over two hours and 22 minutes, according to ESPN.
There was no visible sign of trouble during the match itself, and she never called for a medical timeout on court. Still, Williams skipped her postmatch press conference. "It was really great to be back at Wimbledon," she said in a statement afterward.
"I never expected to be here. The atmosphere was amazing. Walking out was amazing. I definitely relished it and missed it and enjoyed the moment more than anything."

A Nod to the '90s, With a Modern Twist
Williams stuck to Wimbledon's all-white dress code, but she found a way to make it hers. Her warm-up jacket and thigh-length skort were both covered in evenly spaced eyelet cutouts, sheer enough to pass tournament rules without drawing so much as a glance from officials, according to Marie Claire.

The set came from Nike's Heritage collection, an homage to the brand's 1990s designs, complete with the label's red, navy, and Swoosh emblem.
Once she shed the jacket, her eyelet tank top and matching wristbands were on full display, trimmed in white and emerald green along the hem and waistband.

Her Manicure and Engagement Ring Sparked a Debate
Williams finished the look with small hoop earrings, her Nike Air Zoom Vapor X sneakers in a white and iridescent blue colorway, and one accessory that immediately caught attention: her 14-carat engagement ring, estimated to be worth millions.

But her manicure got just as much notice, and not all of it was flattering.
On Instagram, the reactions to her nails and ring came fast. "That middle finger mani didn't make it through the entire match lol," one commenter wrote, while another said, "Really bad nail job.... Nice ring."

Someone else voiced actual concern over the jewelry, writing, "For the sake of her ring, I sure hope this one is fake! I'd be a nervous wreck wearing one while playing tennis!"
One commenter even blamed the loss on it, joking, "She would have won. Those nails held her down," while another had the opposite take, "I've never seen diamond nails before and I ain't mad at them... and I love how they match her natural diamond ring as well 😍."

Her Biggest Fans Were Sitting Courtside
Beyond her outfit and performance, Williams had a full cheering section in the stands, led by husband Alexis Ohanian and their daughters, Olympia, 8, and Adira, 2. All three showed up in tennis whites, with the eldest wearing her braids half up and carrying a popcorn box bag covered in plushie charms.

The youngest matched the occasion in a collared dress with pink and purple accents, paired with leggings, Velcro sneakers, and a white bow in her curly ponytail.
Ohanian, who held his youngest in his arms for most of the match, was dressed in a cream T-shirt, black pants, and a matching cap.

The Reddit founder later shared a carousel of the family cheering Williams on. "Our little family is so proud of you @serenawilliams," he wrote, "even though it wasn't the outcome you wanted, you're an inspiration. We love you. @olympiaohanian @adiraohanian are also happy they got to stay up a bit past their bedtime 😏."

The photos of their girls pulled in their own wave of comments. "What a moment for Olympia," one person wrote, while another added, "That baby girl sparks joy. Your kiddos are SMART, SWEET & BEAUTIFUL."
Others were even more emotional about it. "The last picture has me in tears. 😭" one commenter shared, and another simply pointed out, "Adira is mini serena."
Venus Was There Too, and a Doubles Match is Next
Williams wasn't the only sister in the building. Venus Williams sat nearby in a white mockneck top and black blazer, watching ahead of their planned doubles match together later in the week against Camila Osorio and Solana Sierra.
The Williams sisters are six-time Wimbledon doubles champions, though their last title together came back in 2016. Whether that reunion happens this year is now in question.

A Knee Injury Adds Uncertainty
Williams' agent, Jill Smoller, confirmed in a statement that Williams "tweaked her right knee at the end of the first set" during the loss to Joint, which is why she skipped her press conference. Smoller said she was cleared to leave by Wimbledon and WTA medical staff and "left site that night unaided."
The tennis star addressed the injury herself in an Instagram post, writing that she'll "be doing everything I can to be ready for doubles."
"It felt so good to be back on the grass at @wimbledon," she added. "I'm incredibly thankful for the wild card, and even more grateful my daughters got to see that it's never too late to chase something you love."
Unfortunately, Williams skipped practice at the All England Club on Wednesday, while her sister was scheduled to practice alone.
Still, Serena Williams received her wild card into the tournament after announcing her comeback earlier this month, having already played two doubles events alongside Victoria Mboko and Karolina Muchova beforehand.
Through all of it, she has kept the same message: this run isn't about titles. It's about her daughters watching her play the sport she loves, knee and all.
And speaking of the girls, they were also seen earlier this year in a photo posted by Ohanian. As previously reported, the image captured the family of four against a softly lit backdrop of greenery and flowers, creating an elegant, fairytale-like scene.
Ohanian stood to the side in a black suit, holding a smiling Adira in a pink tulle skirt. At the same time, Williams wore a strapless, pale pink satin gown, her hand resting on Olympia, who wore a light blue, sparkly dress.

Together, their coordinated looks and relaxed, affectionate poses convey warmth, closeness, and celebration. Ohanian captioned the image, "Late! But Happy New Year!! This shot is from V's wedding, actually, but what a beautiful wedding, and let me brag a second about our two perfect little girls, AKA elite flower girls."
While the post from January anchored the image in a family milestone, it subtly shifted attention toward the couple's children.
Social Media Reacts
It didn't take long for followers to flood the comments with emotional reactions, many of whom focused on how quickly the children appear to be growing. One commenter wrote, "The baby looks just like daddy 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰." Another added, "I wasn't ready for the girls to be that big 😭❤️."
Others lingered on the details and expressions captured in the image. "Beautiful family! Little one has a joyous, heaven sent smile! Made my day to see that," one person commented. Another gushed, "Oh my goodness Adria's smile is contagious. I can't stop smiling at her smile. And Princess Olympia is getting taller and taller. Beautiful family. 😍❤️"
The admiration continued with a longer reflection, "Wait.. wait! The baby with the cute tiny baby teeth and smile..!!!! She's definitely charismatic and charming.🥰😊 And the Mother…wait..! Is she wearing a Crown..??? ..So fitting!!!.. what a beautiful family all in all! Happy New Year! 2026!🔥👍🏿🙏🏿🌹"
Still others echoed a familiar refrain among the celebrity parents. "Both girls look like dad," a comment read.

The image, rooted in a private family celebration, resonated widely, showing how rare, intimate moments can become gentle reminders of time passing, children growing, and the public's enduring fascination with seeing familiar figures simply together as a family.
