Melanie Griffith, 68, Steps Out in LA to Walk Her Dog and Fans Can't Stop Talking About Her Legs – Photo
The star's latest appearance has reopened a much bigger conversation about aging, fitness, and the unforgiving standards women in Hollywood are still expected to meet.
Melanie Griffith kept things casual for a recent outing in Los Angeles — but one detail in the new photos quickly became the focus of online chatter.
At 68, the actress stepped out to walk her dog in the summer heat, and the pictures soon had people debating everything from her legs to just how youthful she still looks.

The focus on Griffith's legs quickly became one of the biggest talking points around the latest photos. One commenter asked directly, "What's happening to her legs," underscoring how intensely her appearance was being scrutinized. | Source: Instagram/backgrid_usa
The actress was photographed during the sunny dog walk wearing a white Fred Segal T-shirt tucked loosely into a pair of light-wash denim cutoff shorts. She finished the laid-back look with dark sunglasses and flat sandals, letting her short blonde hair fall naturally around her face.
With her phone in one hand and the dog's leash in the other, Griffith appeared relaxed as she made her way along the sidewalk. The tiny denim shorts put her legs fully on display, and that seemingly ordinary wardrobe choice became the detail social media users couldn't stop discussing.
In other shots, Griffith can be seen walking toward the camera alongside her dog, with the bright Los Angeles greenery framing the pair. The actress appeared completely unfazed by the heat, keeping her outfit simple and practical for the daytime stroll.

Some reactions were more critical, with one user writing, "She needs to work on her legs. 🦵." The remark stood in contrast to other fans who defended Griffith and praised how fit she looked. | Source: Instagram/backgrid_usa
Online Viewers Became Fixated on Melanie Griffith's Legs
Once the images reached social media, commenters began taking a much closer look. One Instagram user bluntly asked, "What's happening to her legs [sic]," before later responding to another person with, "bumpy legs no exercise [sic]." Another commenter weighed in with, "She needs to work on her legs. 🦵."
Not everybody agreed with that assessment, however, as one fan tagged the actress directly and opined, "@melaniegriffith looks fit and young." Someone else was distracted by an entirely different part of the outfit, swooning, "Love her tee shirt ❤️💙."
The positive reactions continued elsewhere online, too. Responding to the photos on X, one supporter simply declared, "She still looks great." Another echoed that sentiment almost word for word with, "Still looks great 👌."
The mix of reactions is particularly striking given Griffith's own history of speaking candidly about what it is like to grow older in an industry where physical appearance can become a constant subject of public conversation and scrutiny.
Griffith Has Already Spoken Out About Hollywood's Obsession with Youth
In 2020, Griffith criticized Hollywood's fixation on "youth and beauty," describing the industry as a "very superficial place." She also admitted that aging had given her a new understanding of complaints she once heard from older actresses.
"It is what I never thought would happen when I was in my 20s and 30s, hearing actresses [expletive] about not getting any work when they turned 50," Griffith said. "Now I understand it; it is just different."

The Actress Has Also Been Painfully Candid About Public Scrutiny
And Griffith has experienced particularly personal scrutiny over her looks before. Back in 2017, she opened up about cosmetic procedures she had undergone years earlier, well over 20 years ago to be exact, saying she initially did not realize how dramatically the work had changed her appearance.
“No, I didn't [realize] until people started saying, 'Oh my god, what has she done?!' I was so hurt," Griffith recalled. "I went to a different doctor, and he started dissolving all of this [sic] that this other woman doctor had put in. Hopefully, I look more normal now."

Griffith's history suggests that fitness has been an important part of her routine for years. She previously revealed that she trained with celebrity fitness expert Gunnar Peterson several times a week and was "determined to stay fit" as she got older. | Source: Getty Images
Those comments make the latest fixation on her body feel especially notable. Years after speaking openly about being judged for her appearance, Griffith can still turn something as routine as walking her dog into a full-blown discussion about how a woman in Hollywood is "supposed" to look.
Melanie Griffith's Fitness History Tells Another Story
Apart from her facial features, the recent suggestions that Griffith has simply ignored fitness over the years don't line up particularly neatly with what she has previously shared about her routine.
In February 2021, when Griffith was 63 years old, the actress showed off an intense workout with Celebrity Trainer Gunnar Peterson. Wearing black leggings and a black T-shirt, Griffith worked through forward-sliding pushups on her knees, weighted squats, resistance-machine ab exercises and chest presses.
At one point during the session, she laughed and asked, "Okay, is that good?! Am I done?" At the time, Griffith explained that she was training regularly, penning in the accompanying caption of her video, "I work out with @gunnarfitness 3 times a week, sometimes more if he hasn't kicked my [expletive] too hard. I'm determined to stay fit at 63."
Of Peterson, the "Body Double" actress praised, "Also Gunnar's one of the funniest, kindest, most interesting people I've ever met. We laugh, he pushes me hard. Happy grateful woman I am! 😘😘😘😘."
Peterson returned the compliment, writing, "Thank you @melaniegriffith, it is a pleasure, an honor, and a helluva a lot of fun! I love how you work! @thespyder360 @kabukistrength @fitfighter @sorinex."
The Star's Commitment to Staying Strong Goes Back Years
That wasn't a short-lived fitness kick, either, as Griffith had previously shared a 2019 workout featuring leg lifts, weighted alternating lunges with rotation, cable pulldowns, barbell bicep curls and cardio on an elliptical.
"Ok. I have been working out with Gunnar, ❤️, @gunnarfitness for 7 years. I ADORE THIS MAN!!" she wrote at the time. "He helps me keep my 50+11 year old body tight and strong. He is also kind of my therapist.... @kaileygdavis 🙏🏻 and Brad💋💃🏼💋💋💋."
The Photos Tell Their Own Story
So while the newest pictures inevitably prompted opinions — some harsher than others — Griffith herself seemed far more interested in enjoying an ordinary summer walk with her dog than in meeting anybody else's expectations.
And perhaps that is what makes the photographs worth a closer look: no red carpet, no elaborate styling and no attempt to disguise the realities of getting older — just Melanie Griffith at 68, out in the Los Angeles sunshine and looking completely comfortable doing her own thing.
