Man who clung to girlfriend's moving SUV dies after fall
The man’s final act of kindness proved he was a hero.
All Cute All the Time reported that Ryan Minett was killed as he was trying to stop his girlfriend from driving drunk on March 24, 2018.
Friends and family remember 27-year-old Minett as a caring man who always tried to do what was right. Even when he died, he was successful in saving other’s lives.
It was less than two months that he was dating 28-year-old Jessica Ann Royall. On that fateful day, she got drunk and climbed into her car, heading to pick up her children.
Minett did not want to let her go, he did everything he could to stop her. He climbed on the top of the car, gripping the luggage rack as he desperately tried to stop Royall.
As the SUV roared past, he shouted to a stunned neighbor to call 911.
She refused to halt and sadly, Minett was thrown from the moving vehicle. He rolled 53 feet before coming to a stop as he struck a light post.
His death was brought about as a result of blunt force trauma to his head, torso, and extremities. After the death was declared a homicide, Royall was charged.
Staying to true to his nature, Minett helped others around him even after his death.
His family learned that he was eligible to donate his organs. They knew it was something he would have done without a second thought.
His neighbor and best friend, Andrew Dietz, was lucky to receive his organs. Dietz was suffering from a rare disease called FSGS.
Minett was a perfect match and they were able to donate a kidney to Dietz. His death was not in vain and his family will be glad that a part of him will now live on in his best friend forever.
Royall faces charges including drunken driving and felony assault. The Cranberry Police Chief Kevin Meyer added that she will also be charged with homicide by vehicle.
