2-year-old boy miraculously woke up from a coma one day after he was taken off life support

This little boy was dying, but then a miracle happened.

Dylan Askin, then 2, miraculously woke up from a coma one day after his parents agreed to turn off his life support on Easter Sunday in 2016, as reported by New York Post.

Though her mother, Kerry Askin, is not 'massively' religious, she believed that what happened to her son was a miracle.

Two years later, Dylan, 4, became the poster child for a charity that supports families with cancer-stricken children called CLIC Sargent. This charity also helped the Askin family when Dylan was hospitalized.

On Christmas Day in 2015, Dylan was taken to the hospital with breathing difficulties. The doctors found out that the little boy had cysts covering his lungs. He was also found to have a collapsed lung.

Dylan was then diagnosed with the extremely rare pulmonary Langerhans cell histiocytosis (PLCH), a rare disease that affects the lungs.

Little Dylan's health started to rapidly decline. His parents thought that it was in the best interests of their son for his life support to be switched off.

“On Good Friday they told us things were looking bleak and that we weren’t going to get him back. All the settings on all the machines were at their highest and he was still struggling,” Kerry said.

The family had Dylan christened and they were ready to say goodbye to him. The doctors began to withdraw Dylan's life support the following day, but his heart rate became normal.

"We just said stop, there is still fight in him. Then his oxygen levels started to pick up, and he started coming back to us," Kerry said.

By Easter Sunday the young boy had stabilized. Kerry believed that her son was their Easter miracle.

Dylan was sent home a month after he woke up and on July 2017 he completed chemotherapy.
