According to Mirror, Matley was diagnosed with stage three malignant melanoma after he found a lump under his arm in the summer of 2016.
The news was devastating to him and his family because he displayed no symptoms before the diagnosis. He also had to cancel several tours.
Mattley underwent surgery to remove some of the cancerous cells. He thought that the hardest part of the journey was behind him, but sadly that wasn't the case.
Soon after the surgery, more lumps were discovered around his collarbone and neck. He took time off from the band to focus on his treatment.
He was tested regularly and his scans looked 'really positive.' He was happy to inform his fans that cancer had regressed and said he was blessed to 'be one of the lucky ones.'

He expressed his gratitude many times for being surrounded by people who truly cared about, and who supported him during his illness.
