Prince Philip tried to save Charles and Diana’s marriage. Here's his true feelings about Camilla
The Duke of Edinburgh was on Princess Diana's side during her marriage breakdown.
As reported by All Cute All The Time, Prince Philip was unhappy with Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles' relationship.
The 96-year-old Prince consort tried to save the marriage of Charles and Diana. Sources claimed that he wrote a letter to the People's Princess, siding with her on the matter.
'We never dreamed he might feel like leaving you for her. I cannot imagine anyone in their right mind leaving you for Camilla. Such a prospect never even entered our heads,' he wrote, according to All Cute All The Time.
Camilla has been the less favorable member of the British royal family. Many people have yet to forgive her since Charles and Diana’s divorce.
In 1995, BBC's Martin Bashir spoke to Diana in a solo interview, where she revealed that she knew about her husband's extramarital affair, USA Today reported.
When Bashir asked her if she thought Camilla was a factor in the breakdown of her marriage with Charles, she infamously said: "There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded."
In an interview with biographer, Andrew Morton, which was recorded on tapes, Diana revealed that she once confronted Camilla. She told the Duchess of Cornwall that she knew what's going on between her and Charles.
Diana went on to say that Camilla told her she got everything she ever wanted including two children. She added that Camilla asked her, "What more do you want?"
"I want my husband. I'm sorry I'm in the way and it must be hell for both of you. But I do know what's going on. Don't treat me like an idiot," she told Camilla.
Before Charles met Diana, he was in love with Camilla. But Camilla wasn’t viewed as virginal enough for a proper courtship and role as a royal wife.
In 1973, Camilla was married to Andrew Parker Bowles. Charles, who also dated Diana's older sister, Sarah in 1977, was married to Diana in 1981.
Charles and Diana's relationship seemed stable at first. But in 1986, after the birth of Prince William and Prince Harry, Charles rekindled his affair with Camilla. Diana also began dating James Hewitt, her riding instructor.
As the result of a loveless marriage, Diana and Charles eventually separated in 1992 and divorced in 1996.
The Princess of Wales was killed in a car crash in a Paris tunnel on August 31, 1997. She was 36 years old at the time.
In 2005, Charles tied the knot with Camilla in a civil ceremony at Windsor Castle. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip did not attend the marriage ceremony. But they attended the service of blessing at Windsor Castle's St. George's Chapel.
Camilla, who was automatically acquired rank as the second highest woman in the United Kingdom Order of Precedence, was known as the "most hated woman in Britain."
