Princess Diana's friends and admirers were upset by what they saw Camilla wearing on one of her first public appearances.

It is common knowledge that the divorce between Princess Diana and Prince Charles was triggered by his long affair with Camilla Parker Bowles. Prince Charles and Bowles met in their early twenties and became romantically involved.

The relationship did not end, and their 'friendship' continued through her marriage and subsequent divorce. As much as he might wish it, Charles could not marry Bowles, a divorced woman. When he was pressured to marry, Bowles introduced him to the young and vulnerable Lady Diana Spencer as a suitable royal bride.

Diana was innocent, from a suitable background and inexperienced enough to be swept off her feet by the dashing Prince of Wales. The fairytale wedding enchanted the world, but the young bride was soon to learn she was facing an unbeatable rival. Even as Charles and Diana's marriage foundered, the affair with Bowles flourished.

After the divorce, and her untimely death, Charles secured the Queen's permission to marry Bowles in 2005, though he assured the disgruntled British people that she would never be queen.

Apparently unsatisfied with her triumph, the Duchess of Cornwall appropriated the Princess's favorite jewels. The Queen had given Diana the Prince of Wales Feather brooch when she was a bride, and after her divorce, the Princess returned the jewels classified as heirlooms to the Royal family.

The brooch had become one of the Princess' signature pieces and the public was outraged to see the Duchess sporting it on her first engagement after her marriage to Prince Charles.

Prince Charles is said to have insisted that his new bride should wear the family heirloom, but the gesture upset the British.

The Prince's future subjects have never accepted the Duchess of Cornwall, blaming her for their beloved 'Princess of the People's' pain, and the flaunting of the brooch has deepened their anger.

Prince Charles will be the first King of England whose consort is named neither Princess nor Queen, nor titled Her Royal Highness, which Diana maintained as a mother to the future heir to the throne, Prince William.
