What's Behind the Discussion Around Kate Middleton's Latest Appearances?
A skipped royal greeting, a temple visit without shoes, and a lively dance with worshippers. Princess Kate's latest appearances have generated discussion online, with many closely watching her return to public duties.
For a brief moment inside the historic halls of Westminster Abbey, two of the royal family's most recognizable women leaned toward one another in greeting — and then suddenly stopped. What should have been a routine royal cheek kiss turned into a lighthearted near-miss that quickly set tongues wagging online.

The unexpected moment unfolded as the Princess of Wales arrived for the annual Commonwealth Day service alongside other senior royals, including Princess Anne, the Princess Royal.
The Royal Greeting That Didn't Quite Happen
But as the pair approached one another with warm smiles, observers noticed something unusual: the traditional royal greeting never happened. Instead, there was laughter.

As the royal party greeted one another inside the Abbey, Anne and Kate skipped their usual cheek kiss. Rather than leaning in, the two women exchanged amused smiles and shared a brief laugh. The reason soon became clear — and it had nothing to do with tension or protocol. It was the hats.
Both women had arrived wearing dramatic statement headpieces designed to complement their outfits for the formal service. Kate wore a striking blue dress paired with a wide-brimmed hat, while Princess Anne chose an emerald green ensemble topped with an equally bold hat.

The sheer size of the hats made the traditional greeting nearly impossible without the risk of an awkward collision. Video from the moment shows Anne smiling and leaning back slightly as the two greeted one another. Kate responded with a laugh as they continued into the service.
Other members of the royal family appeared to make similar adjustments, with several opting for a single kiss instead of the customary two — seemingly a careful effort to avoid knocking the meticulously styled hats.
Online Attention Quickly Turns to Kate's Hair
But while the charming moment between Anne and Kate drew smiles inside Westminster Abbey, it was the Princess of Wales' appearance that soon ignited discussion online. One admirer praised the princess, writing, "Beautiful hair and smile." Others, however, had opinions about the length of her hairstyle.
"Beautiful but hair far too long for a mature woman," one person commented. Some commenters seemed puzzled by how full her hair appeared following her recent health struggles. "We need the secret to flowing locks, especially given the chemo. It baffles me really. Hair was shorter before the sickness, now it overflows?" the comment read.

Another viewer offered a gentler take, "I like her hair darker, but she's so lovely and elegant." Others were more skeptical. "Not natural. Her hairdresser must be very rich," one commenter wrote. Despite the mixed reactions, Kate's appearance at the Commonwealth Day service marked another important step as she gradually returns to public royal duties.
The Princess of Wales arrived alongside her husband, Prince William, wearing a coordinated navy blue ensemble. Kate wore a coat dress by London-based designer Catherine Walker — a label she has frequently chosen for major royal occasions.

The elegant design featured oversized buttons down the front and a pleated skirt that moved gracefully as she walked. She completed the look with navy blue stilettos. The structured shoulders of the coat dress offered a subtle nod to bold 1980s-inspired fashion.
For accessories, Kate chose a classic string of pearls paired with matching pearl earrings believed to have once belonged to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

A Star-Studded Commonwealth Gathering
The annual Commonwealth Day service drew a high-profile crowd that included members of the royal family, political leaders, and public figures.
Among those present were the Prince and Princess of Wales, Princess Anne and her husband Sir Timothy Laurence, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and King Charles III and Queen Camilla, who arrived last.

The royal party was welcomed inside Westminster Abbey by the Dean of Westminster. Queen Camilla stood out in a bright red dress by designer Fiona Clare, paired with a matching hat, while King Charles chose a blue pinstriped suit.
Other guests included Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Prince Albert of Monaco, and former Spice Girls member Geri Halliwell, who attended with her husband Christian Horner.

Days Earlier, a Temple Visit That Touched Many
Just days before the Westminster Abbey appearance, the Princess of Wales had carried out another public engagement — this time in Leicester. During the visit on March 5, Kate met residents and toured businesses along Leicester's bustling Golden Mile.
One stop included a Hindu temple, where the princess joined worshippers for a traditional welcome. Before entering the temple, Kate removed her shoes — a gesture of cultural respect that quickly caught attention. Royal engagements rarely involve such moments, but removing footwear is customary in many places of worship.
Before taking them off, the princess had been wearing camel-colored stilettos paired with a cream-colored custom coatdress by designer Chris Kerr and a pleated knit midi dress.
Crowds gathered eagerly along the streets to greet the princess during her visit. Kate was welcomed with music, dancing, and enthusiastic residents waving from cars or lining the pavement to shake her hand. "Welcome to Leicester, Ma'am," one shopper said as she passed outside a jeweler's store.
An elderly woman handed the princess a printed blessing. At a nearby community center that had recently celebrated Holi, the Indian festival of color and spring, Kate received a garland made of pearls and roses. Bollywood dancers performed for the royal guest — and in a spontaneous moment, Kate was invited to join them.
Holding a rose, she briefly danced with the group. Afterward, she laughed about the energy required for the routine. "You must be super fit because it's super energetic," she told the dancers. She added that her children would love it too.

The appearance also sparked warm reactions online. "Diana would be so proud of her," one commenter wrote. Another summed up the gesture many noticed most, "Respect." A third admirer added, "She is so good."
Together, the appearances — from the laughter-filled moment at Westminster Abbey to the vibrant celebration in Leicester — offered a glimpse of the Princess steadily returning to public life while continuing to captivate crowds both in person and online.
