Mom is surprised with an unexpected second baby after 40 hours of labor

A couple opted for a more natural birth, wishing for a peaceful birth at home.

Faith Tap reported that Matthew and Nicole Ziesemer had to head to a hospital in a bizarre turn of events and an exhausting 40-hour labor.

Nicole and Matthew wanted to have as little medical intervention as possible. They hired a midwife and hoped to welcome their child at the safety of their home.

However, things did not turn out as they had planned. Nicole went into labor about four and a half weeks before the baby’s approximate due date on January 30.

They could not go in for a natural home birth as the baby was less than 36 weeks old and medical intervention was necessary.

They did not have an ultrasound as they were determined on having a natural birth. Nicole and Matthew had driven to Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial Hospital in Fremont, Michigan, after the former had started to feel early contractions.

The two could not believe that their extended family was already at the hospital for a birth they had never planned on having there.

Nicole’s brother, Raymond, was filling that night for an overnight shift, while his wife, Emily, was assigned to be their nurse. Looking at the familiar faces, they knew they were at the right place.

The expectant mother had to go through a 40-hour labor and all anyone could do was wait. After hours of pain, an adorable baby girl made her way into the world. However, the couple had some news they were least expecting. In fact, the doctors did not see it coming either.

When Dr. Megan Forshee went to stitch up a small tear, she felt a second baby’s head. She then realized that the woman was pregnant with twins.

The couple had a girl, Blakeley Faith Ziesemer, and a boy, Cade, and thanked God for the blessings in their life.

He took to Facebook to share his joy, ‘God definitely has a greater plan for us and showed us that we don’t control anything in our lives. It is truly up to him and we have to trust that whatever curveball he throws at us is what we need in our lives.’

Though they wanted things to happen naturally, there are times which call for medical intervention.

The little boy was a secret until the last minute. He had managed to keep his presence and baby kicks hidden from his mother.

Nicole took some time to recover from her ordeal. Blakeley was healthy, though Cade was monitored to make sure he was breathing well.

In the most recent update on Facebook, the father said that his son was doing great and he was off his breathing supplements and IV. He was even scheduled to be released soon.

The parents ended up buying a second set of everything after the baby was born. However, they are not complaining as it is not every day that parents receive such a surprise.
