It is not uncommon for celebrities to deal with online trolling, but actress Melissa McCarthy has a unique approach.

The renowned comedienne spoke candidly to People and shared her philosophy of handling meanness from strangers.

She recalled that she had to deal with a lot of negative and rude comments after the release of the 2016 film Ghostbusters, in which starred alongside Kristin Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon.

The 47-year-old celebrity shared that every time she would come across someone saying mean things about her, she would wish for them to feel better in life.

McCarthy emphasized that online trolls did not trigger anger within her, rather, she found herself thinking about them with compassion.

She wished for her trolls to experience happiness, for someone approachable, funny and kind to enter their lives and make them feel better.

She picked herself up whenever she felt low by telling herself that nothing gets resolved by sitting at home sulking.

Speaking about the times when men who resort to meanness, McCarthy shared that she would turn her attention to the men she personally knew since she was certain they would not behave disrespectfully.

McCarthy added that she cherished the men in her life who had helped her grow, and that helped her remember that good men were the norm.

The mother-of-two has also been teaching her daughters, 11-year-old Vivian and 8-year-old Georgette, to think similarly about people who tend to be hurtful in their words and deeds.

McCarthy stated that she taught her children to realize that a person who is being mean is probably unhappy from within.

In her view, only sad people would be rude to others. Happy people, on the other hand, tend to give compliments and be kind to others.
