'American Idol' finalists admit that they are dating

The reality contest also delivered the couple an unexpected romantic gift.

After a neck-to-neck competition between finalists Caleb Lee Hutchinson and Maddie Poppe, American Idol recently crowned Poppe as the winner of the season.

But the anticipation was only one of the reasons that made the finale episode a dramatic one. In the episode, Hutchinson broke his silence on his romantic relationship with Poppe.

According to the Washington Post, there had been rumors about them dating for a few weeks, and mentor Bobby Bones reportedly knew it as a fact a while ago.

But fans were shocked and extremely happy to hear the sweet confession from Hutchinson himself, right before his final performance with Poppe.

The 19-year-old made the big reveal after host Ryan Seacrest asked him about the significance of one last duet with Poppe.

Hutchinson could not help blushing as he admitted that the 20-year-old songstress was his girlfriend.

While he did not delve into the details of how their romance began, he did state that they had been great friends since the Hollywood Week auditions of the show.

As soon as Hutchison spoke up, the audience screamed with joy, and the reaction of the judges was priceless. In a fit of excitement, Luke Bryan swiveled Katy Perry repeatedly in her chair.

Amidst the overwhelming reaction, the couple proceeded to sing a soulful rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow and What A Wonderful World.

After the moving performance, Seacrest casually asked the duo if they had ever been to Hawaii, to which the unsuspecting contestants replied that they had not visited the place.

It was then that Seacrest added that the network was sending both Hutchinson and Poppe for a vacation in Hawaii. The couple would enjoy a luxurious Disney-themed experience at Aulani resort.
