The 20-year-old singer-songwriter from Clarksville, IA, won the season 16 of American Idol on May 21, 2018.

Poppe, who is looking for career longevity and the fun of being in music and performing, made a special guest appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan recently.

Watching her on the popular television show was quite entertaining because co-host Ryan Seacrest was with her throughout her American Idol journey.

Co-host Kelly Ripa asked Poppe how she was feeling when she heard Seacrest say: “And the winner of American Idol is…Maddie Poppe!”

But Poppe didn't answer her. Instead, the young star took the chance to call Seacrest out.

“I have to tell you guys something,” she said. “Ryan, you’re really bad at hiding the card.”

Seacrest then asked Poppe if she really saw her name on the card.

Poppe told him that she has been in a position to take a quick glimpse throughout the season, but she never did until the finale episode.

“There’s a moment where Caleb and I looked at each other because we both looked at the card before you said it,” she said.

Seacrest explained that the producer of American Idol gave him the biggest card he’s been given all season, and that was the reason why Poppe and Caleb Lee Hutchinson could see their name on it.

Poppe sang Rainbow Connection when she auditioned for season 16 of the American Idol, which was held in New York.

She performed Landslide, her original song Don't Ever Let Your Children Grow Up and her winners' single Going Going Gone during the finale.

Born on December 5, 1997, Poppe, whose father is a musician and guitarist, had also auditioned for The Voice in 2015.

In 2017, prior to winning American Idol, she released a debut album called Songs from the Basement.
