Son uses his own money to gift a gorgeous house to his beloved parents
After watching his parents work hard his entire life, and still losing everything when the financial crisis hit, he wanted to do something wonderful for them.
Lejuan James wanted to take care of his parents in the way that they had always taken care of him, so he decided to start saving his money and meet with a realtor to buy them a new home.
When he managed to pull it off, James took to Facebook to share a video of the amazing reveal to his parents.
The emotional clips shows the culmination of a lifelong dream for James, who had always wanted to find a way to repay his parents' hard work that had allowed them to give their children everything.
James' parents both worked two jobs, with regular overnight shifts to put food on the table and to ensure that they could put presents under the Christmas tree.
In 2016, James worked hard and invested in himself. In 2017, he wanted to use the money he had made to thank them, saying he will be forever indebted to them for everything they have done for him over the years.
The footage shows James' parents walking hand in hand down the street, with blindfolds over their eyes. The moment they remove those and realize what they're looking at, they break down in tears.
The clip also shows comprehensive footage of the inside of the house, with large bedrooms, walk in wardrobes, and lovely bathrooms.
10 months later, the video has over 6.3 million views, 116,000 shares, and 382,000 reactions.
"When you're young and naive you don't understand how hard your parents are working. My parents would bust their tail working overnights, working multiple shifts and they'd alternate to take care of us, it was three of us. And you don't really understand until you're a little older, then you understand the concept of money and how hard it is to get it and how easy it is to spend it," James told E! News.
Finding the house wasn't easy for James, as he had to take into consideration the location of their businesses so that they were still close to work.
Although his parents had worked hard their whole lives, they were badly affected by the 2007 financial crisis. They lost both their homes, and were forced to rent a small place to survive.
They were also hit by an emotional tragedy at the same time, when James' grandmother fell ill with brain cancer. The couple spent a fortune trying to save her life by getting her treated in Rhode Island where the specialists were.
"So my mom literally moved back and forth, back and forth. We would stay over there to take care of my grandmother, so throughout this whole process, she put herself in a tough bind and a financial situation where she ended up losing her house, ended up losing some of the businesses. But she didn't care, and neither did any of us because it was our last hope of trying to take care of our grandmother which is why I honored her," James said.
James' grandmother always reminded him that he needed to take care of his parents, and so it was poetic for James that he was fulfilling his grandmother's wish to do his best for them.
"It was such a genuine moment because it was just me pouring my heart out and telling them in that particular time, 'This is me trying to repay you guys for being the wonderful parents that you are,'" James said.
