Fishman broke his silence in a lengthy statement addressing the issue on Roseanne Barr’s scandalous tweets which made ABC decide to cancel the hit-reboot series of Roseanne.

Fishman plays the son of the controversial actress on the show as DJ Conner. Hours after the news broke out, he issued a statement clearing out his name, along with the other cast and crew who worked on the show apart from Barr.

The actor said that the experience has been the hardest one in his life so far and he just felt devastated since many people have worked hard to make Roseanne the successful show that it was before Barr’s racial comments attacking Valerie Jarrett – former President Barack Obama’s adviser.

He wrote, ‘I feel devastated, not for the end of the Roseanne show, but for all those who poured their hearts and souls into our jobs, and the audience welcomes us into their homes. Our cast, crew, writers and production staff strived for inclusiveness.’

Fishman clarified that Barr’s words do not reflect the beliefs of everybody else in the show.

He also condemned Barr’s statements and called them ‘reprehensible and intolerable.’ He continued to say that it contradicted his beliefs and his view both on life and society.

‘I have always lived and taught my children to be inclusive. I believe our show strived to embrace different backgrounds and opinions, through open dialogue," he added.

Fishman, 36, clarified why he did not want to remain mum about the issue. He didn’t want to look complacent and he wanted to stand up for himself and to all those who were dragged into Barr’s mess.

He ended his statement by writing, ‘In this moment it is important to be clear. We must stand up against bias, hatred, bigotry and ignorance to make society a better place for all.’

Since the cancellation of the show, Barr had spoken out and apologized for her comments about Jarrett. Although, she is still yet to make a comment about the show’s abrupt cancellation.
