John Amos is better known for his role as James Evans, Sr. on the CBS television series “Good Times.” Just like his character, Amos is also a dedicated and loving father, and his adult daughter, Shannon Amos, followed his steps into the industry, just not in the acting field.

Shannon Amos grew up on the sets of series like “Good Times” and films like “Coming to America.” She was just a teenager when her father started to take her along to his meetings with directors, producers, and entertainment companies. Amos wanted the girl to learn about the business side of Hollywood, and he made sure she was listening.

After finishing high school, she landed an internship with Director Spike Lee on his film "Mo Better Blues,” her first experience in the production field before she entered college. However, she dropped out in her freshman year after being hired as a production assistant on MTV's first hip-hop show "Yo! MTV Raps."

Later, she moved to Washington in the hopes of getting a job at BET, and she became a producer on the TV show “America's Most Wanted” until BET finally noticed her. She went quickly from producer to show creator and director.

She tried a different side of the industry by producing music videos for artists such as Snoop Dogg, Jodeci, Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, and later had the pleasure of producing a movie where her father was the star, the comedy “The Watermelon Heist.”

Shannon’s talent eventually led her to Warner Bros. Entertainment, where she contributed to the success of films like “Blood Diamond,” “Letters from Iwo Jima,” “Harry Potter” and “The Bucket List.”

She also created her own production company, Afterglow Multimedia, LLC, where she produces digital and TV content to networks such as TV One, ESPN, BET, MTV, All Def Digital and All Def Music.

However, these days Shannon is taking a sabbatical year, as she dropped her responsibilities as a producer and decided to travel around the world while promoting a healthy lifestyle and teaching people the best way to reach a happy life through wellness.

She’s a meditation enthusiast and has been sharing her techniques with followers through her social media accounts while also sharing beautiful shots of exotic countries and their people to send a message of unity to the world.

Shannon looks happier than ever, and even though she left her family back at home to travel all by herself, we’re sure the experience is worth the sacrifice.
