Woman celebrates her 105th birthday despite living a riotous life

Not exactly living the doctor-prescribed life, Helen Granier was animated and lively while enjoying her 105th birthday with full pomp and splendor.

10News WTSP shared a video on Facebook showing 105-year-old Helen Granier celebrate her milestone at the Coral Oaks Independent Living Facility on June 15, 2018.

This was a birthday party like no other and the news crew attended the celebrations to film it live for the world. Helen, who is currently a resident at the facility in Palm Harbor, Florida, celebrated her 105th birthday with her close friends.

At her birthday party, Helen reminisced about the past and shared funny anecdotes with her friends. Helen has been living at this facility for nine years now. Before retiring to Florida, Helen used to work for a hosiery plant for 22 years.

Helen credited her long life to her “party animal” lifestyle, filled with drinking, smoking and late night outs. She had a love for gambling that she did not get to enjoy to the fullest as her late husband refused to take her to Las Vegas.

She said that she got to fulfill that dream after he passed away when she went to Vegas on her own.

Helen has lived through both the World Wars and despite her age, she still had a recollection of that era. She remembered how her mother had tuberculosis during the 1st world war.

Helen was barely a 3-4-year-old toddler, and her uncle visited them during those tough times. She added that nobody, herself included, expected her to live this long.

If there ever was a secret to long life, she said that she did not know any.

On being asked if she had any advice to give, she laughed it off saying that she couldn’t give any advice to people as she never listened to any advice herself but managed to live her life on her own terms.
