Gospel singer and songwriter Kirk Franklin made a shocking revelation about his sister a few days ago. The woman has been sentenced to thirty years in prison for undisclosed causes. This is not the first time she’s facing jail time.

Grammy Award winner Kirk Franklin, better known for leading urban contemporary gospel choirs such as The Family, God's Property, and One Nation Crew, leads by example by relying on his faith in every aspect of his life.

Having been abandoned by his mother as a baby, and being raised by his aunt, Kirk showed a talent for music from an early age, something that his family members encouraged along with his religious upbringing.

After his teenage rebellious years where he distanced from church and music, he finally came back around and became the director of the choir at his church and founded his first gospel group, The Humble Hearts. It was the start of his successful career.

However, Kirk’s younger sister didn’t follow his example. She ended up getting involved with the wrong people, and now she has been sentenced to spend three decades in jail, as Franklin revealed in an Instagram post that reads:

“My sister was just sentenced to 30 years in prison. I now feel the weight of wondering if I could have done more.”

“Rough days,” the 48-years-old captioned the post. Fans and friends alike took to the comment section to give words of encouragement for the singer.

Pastor John Gray wrote:

“She was your sister. But she was not your responsibility. You did as much as you could. And God knows you did. Don’t hold yourself hostage to the land of what if….you’re a great man. A great husband and father. And a loyal, loving, committed brother. Love you man.”

Instagram user @mrsspj added:

“Kirk. My brother. Release the guilt. The devil will make you feel guilty of things that you had no control over. In certain situations, all we can do is love and let God do the rest. Sending you all the love I have and praying for your peace. Satan won't win.”

And @duch_ess said:

“Life is about choices and we all have to make them so don't blame yourself for someone else's choice. Praying for you all.”

Even though Kirk didn’t disclose the reason why his sister is behind bars, we can assume is probably related to drugs, because is not the first time the woman is facing the authorities.

Back in 2015, Kirk opened about his sister’s decade on jail on his Patheos blog saying:

“For over ten years, my younger sister was incarcerated in a facility here in Texas. She was in love with a young man who was a drug dealer. He introduced her to not only selling drugs but using as well. When he was arrested for drug trafficking, she was arrested along with him. After she served her time, she was brought before the review board who determined she was ready to be released and brought back into society. The documents were signed, and she was set free… but only on paper.”

Franklin continued to describe how his sister went back to drugs a few months after being released, and her addiction reached the point of her using her body to pay for her debts and her habit.

For the singer, the reason his sister was so lost was the lack of faith in her life.

Sadly, it seems like she wasn’t able to make a change in her life, and now she’s paying the consequences of her reckless acts.
