This incident took place around 1.45 a.m. when officers asked the driver to stop the car on Boundary Street. They saw the car going through a four-way stop at 60 miles an hour, jumping the stop sign.
The driver was found to be a drunk South Carolina woman, Lauren Elizabeth Cutshaw. On being stopped, she told the officers that they should not arrest her as she was “a very clean, thoroughbred, white girl. “
She could not convince the officers of the Bluffton Police Department who eventually arrested her.
“I’m a white, clean girl… You’re a cop; you should know what that means.”
Lauren Elizabeth Cutshaw, Island Packet, August 6, 2018.
According to the jail log, police arrested Cutshaw on counts of speeding, ignoring the stop sign, possessing marijuana, driving under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Cutshaw claimed to have had only two glasses of wine after she was pulled over by the officers as per the police report.
The woman, who turned 33 August 9, told the officers that she was celebrating her birthday when they questioned the size of the glasses.
Cutshaw went on to give the officers a list of other reasons as to why she should not be arrested.
She said that she had the perfect grades, all through her school years, she was a cheerleader, and also a member of a sorority. She stated that her partner was a cop, too.
The report mentioned that the officers were stunned with her comments. One officer wrote that he had never heard such unusual statements “to justify not being arrested.” It further proved that the woman’s level of intoxication was high.
The officer also mentioned how Cutshaw had a blood alcohol level of 0.18, had bloodshot eyes and also failed the sobriety tests. Her words as per the report were also slurred.
The woman was booked and sent to the Beaufort County Detention Center.
