Evan, who was 21 at the time of Jackson's death, was quite close to the pop star, and their relationship fueled rumors of the late icon being his biological father.

However, it wasn't until 2019 that the "ATL" star cleared the air about their friendship and what they shared. He also talked about the close bond he still has with Jackson's kids.

During an appearance on "The Dan Wootton Interview," Evan explained that their tight bond stemmed from Jackson's close relationship with his mom. He said:

"I had a really incredible relationship with him. In the later years, my mum was like a mum to him, and I think some of the most special times he spent was with my mother."

He also confessed that the "Thriller" singer helped him at the start of his music career as he would record songs on his phone and send it to him for approval.

Back in 2018, during an appearance on "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen," the 32-year-old recounted his favorite memory of Jackson amongst his many fun encounters.

He explained that his most cherished moment was when he would go to clubs and put Jackson on speakerphone because the latter wanted to listen to the songs that were playing at the moment.

As a result, the pair would be on the phone all night long, bonding over their shared love of music. He also mentioned that he kept in touch with the singer during his last few years.

Evan's mom and Jackson first crossed paths when she saw him performing at the Apollo Theater at 9. She took him under her wings and used her name to promote their debut album, "Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5."

From then on, it was an eternal friendship for them as Jackson in his will reportedly permitted Diana to take care of his kids if his mother Katherine Jackson dies.

The "I'm Coming Out" crooner has continued to honor the bond she shares with the late singer. This was evident in March 2019 when she defended him after the release of the controversial HBO documentary, "Leaving Neverland."

She took to Twitter to call Jackson "a magnificent incredible force," and urged the rumors to "stop in the name of love." Evan also shared a clip of Jackson performing on stage in support of his mother's remarks.

The tribute to Jackson comes after Evan recently made headlines in April with the news of his family expanding with another child on the way. His wife of six years, Ashlee Simpson, shared the exciting news via a post on Instagram.

The sweet photo showed the couple with smiles on their face as Ashlee held up a positive pregnancy test. This will be the couple's second child and Ashlee's third child as she has a son from her previous marriage.
