Once a heartbroken wife was maintaining a candlelight vigil by the side of her dying husband. As her husband took his final breaths, the wife looked distraught and in a complete mess.

She lovingly held his weak hands, growing feebler by the second. Soon, tears started running down her cheeks.

She was making a silent prayer all the while holding her husband’s hand, but it still woke up the fragile man from his slumber.

He glanced up at his wife and managed to whisper forcibly, “My darling.”

The wife immediately tried to shut him up, pressing his lips with her hand and saying, “Huss, love. You must rest. Do not talk.”

However, the husband insisted on speaking. He could hardly emit a sound beyond the level of a whisper, but still managed to say, “I have something that I must confess.”

“There isn’t anything to confess,” the wife replied, adamant. “Everything’s alright. Please go to sleep.”

The husband still insisted. “No,” he said, “I must die in peace. I must tell you before I leave this world.”

The wife then stopped resisting and asked her husband to say what troubled him. “Tell me then,” she said. “What is it that hurts you so much?”

“My darling,” the dying man said. “I have been unfair to you. I have had affairs with your sister, your best friend, her best friend, and your mother!”

The wife watched his face with surprising calmness. “I know,” she said at last. “That is why I poisoned you.”
