Football player praying for team mate's speedy recovery goes viral for his thoughtfulness
The teenager was photographed on the football pitch praying for his team mate who had been injured during the fixture and had to be rushed to the emergency room.
Dillon Goedeck of Guilford High School in North Carolina has gone viral thanks to his thoughtful reaction to his friend needing urgent medical care as a result of an incident that had occurred during their game.
Grayson Bonomo had been injured during a high school football game in September 2015, and the medical staff pitch-side decided that his injuries were extensive enough to warrant a trip to the emergency room for better care.
While Bonomo was being stretchered off the field, Goedeck had gone down on one knee on the side of the field and offered up a prayer that his friend would be alright. He had not realized that some people had noticed him, and snapped a photo.
The photo was later sent to Bonomo's mother, Colleen Michele, while she was by her son's side in the emergency room at the hospital.
She took to social media with the photo and a lengthy caption, declaring just how proud Goedeck's parents should be of the wonderful young man that they had raised.
"This photo was taken at the North East Guilford football game. It was sent to me while my son was in the ER. #5 Dillon Micheal Goedeck was praying for my son #38 Grayson Bonomo who was injured during the game. This is something every parent should he proud of. I don't know who took the photo but I want to say thank you. This is news worthy.....this is how our children should handle things when they have no control over the situation. Thank you again to whoever you are!!!" she wrote.
The posted has received over 16,000 reactions to date, and has been shared nearly 4,000 times. Plenty of people also took to the comments section to praise Goedeck for his show of faith when his friend needed it the most.
It's not the first time a high school football player has taken to his knee in prayer when a team mate was injured during the game, with Daylen Jones from Richton High School in Mississippi doing the exact same thing just months before Bonomo was injured.
