The retired footballer first injured his right arm over 22 years ago, during a friendly match. Now, that same arm has sent him once again to the hospital.

Recently, Victoria Beckham, the fashion designer and former pop music icon, revealed that her husband, retired footballer David Beckham, was hospitalized.

The revelation came when Victoria shared a couple of Instagram Stories in the early hours of Friday, June 27, 2025.

The first story was a picture of the former England captain in a hospital bed and gown — his right arm in a sling — sporting a broad grin and tired eyes.

The picture was simply captioned "Get well soon daddy." Victoria did not include any details about the cause or location of the hospital visit.

A second picture showed the retired 50-year-old footballer's left hand, resting above the sheets of the same hospital bed. His wedding band is slightly visible on his ring finger.

In the picture, David's heavily-tattooed hand forms a fist as he holds on to a letter bead bracelet that spells out "♥︎ Get well soon ♥︎."

While Victoria's stories did not offer much information about her husband’s health, David has long suffered issues with his right arm following an injury during a May 22, 2003 friendly match between England and South Africa.

The game got off to a solid start for David, who assisted in two goals in the first half. However, things changed quickly after halftime.

At the start of the second half in Durban's Kings Park Stadium, defender Thabang Molefe challenged David. After the challenge, the English midfielder landed awkwardly on his right arm.

He subsequently winced in pain and had to take a moment to compose himself before attempting to continue the match.

However, the injury proved too significant to play off.

Within five minutes of the start of the second half, David walked off the field. England ultimately went on to win the match, 2 - 1.

The now-retired footballer was then taken to a hospital, where doctors determined he'd broken his right wrist — a hefty consequence for what was just a friendly match.

It’s unclear if this 22-year-old injury is the direct cause of David's presently-slinged arm. Victoria did not offer additional details in her stories, and the couple is famously private about their personal affairs.

However, the sling being present on his right arm and the casual tone of Victoria's stories seem to suggest as much.

We hope David will be back on his feet — and wrists — soon enough. He's been quite a month — just last week, he received an official knighthood from King Charles. Victoria wrote a heartfelt post on Instagram to congratulate him.

In the post, she expressed her pride in her husband, now Sir David Beckham, and highlighted his dedication to his country, work, passion and family. She also said that David has always been her "knight in shining armour," but now "it's official." And they couldn't be happier.
