Father left in tears after seeing deaf baby's reaction to his singing
A 25-year-old father broke down in tears after an impromptu serenade to his deaf son elated an unexpected reaction from the boy.
An almost three-minute video of Zack Oxendine singing to his two-year-old son, Judah, is making people cry all over the internet. The emotional clip, recorded by Zack’s mom even though he told her several times to put the camera down, shows how deep the father-son connection is between the pair.
In the video, Zack is seen holding his son in his arms and slowly swaying while he begins to sing the country ballad “Boy” by Lee Brice, barely managing to contain the tears. Zack loves to sing and has been doing it since he can remember, but the emotional lyrics of the song got the best of him as his mom urged him to continue the melody.
The song, Zack revealed, is special to him because he has been singing it to Judah since the adorable boy was born at was born at 23 weeks, weighing under 2lbs and with bleeding on his brain.
Judah was kept in the intensive care unit for six months and had to undergo several surgeries after he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, lung disease and a hearing deficiency. Despite all the struggles the toddler has gone through, Zack describes him as his “miracle” and “the happiest boy” his family has seen.
As the clip advances, Zack keeps on asking his mom to stop recording, admitting that he’s about to cry, and when he sits down with Judah on his lap and keeps singing, the boy flashes a smile to his dad that makes him broke down in tears.
“It’s just a truly magical moment between me and my son – every time I watch the video back and see his smile, I tear up,” Zack explained to Metro.
“Ever since the song hit the airwaves, it’s been a song that I can relate to, as it explains the love between a father and his son.”
The man confessed that when got the news that his son would be going into surgery and had a feeding tube placed on his stomach, he cried and played the song, but then realized he and Judah are stronger than everything.
And added:
“When he looked up at me, it was if he was saying everything was going to be okay this is just a storm in life that will soon pass, and we will one day be thankful for it – that’s what I got from that smile, and I just couldn’t contain myself.”
Zach also stated that his son’s smile has never wavered despite his condition and all the difficulties he has gone through at his age. “I can remember even when Judah was in the NICU he was smiling – since he was born and aware he was in the world, he’s never stopped smiling,” he said.
Little Judah loves when people sing to him, even though he’s partially deaf, and Zack believes that he finds ways of expressing his feelings to the world through the music that’s being played to him.
“He has a heart of gold and can bring the toughest of men to tears,” the proud dad concluded.
