Celine Dion Shares Touching Memory About Peabo Bryson's Kindness During 'Beauty and the Beast' Recording
A personal memory hidden inside Celine Dion's tribute to Peabo Bryson has given fans a new perspective on their iconic duet and on a moment that helped shape her future.
As she mourned the Grammy-winning singer's death, Celine revealed an act of kindness that stayed with her for more than three decades.
The pair's voices became inseparable through Disney's "Beauty and the Beast," one of the most recognizable movie songs of the 1990s. But according to Celine, what happened behind the scenes is what she remembers most today.
Her tribute offered a glimpse into a little-known chapter of her rise to international fame — a time when she was still finding her confidence in a language that was not her first.

Celine Dion Faces a Heartbreaking Loss
Following the death of Peabo, Celine shared a heartfelt tribute on her Instagram Stories. The singer posted a throwback photograph of herself and Peabo together at an event, accompanied by a lengthy message reflecting on their friendship and collaboration.
"I'm heartbroken to hear that we lost Peabo Bryson today," she wrote. "His incredible voice and his kind spirit embodied the beauty of song and performance."

Peabo built a successful career spanning pop, R&B, and adult contemporary music, earning multiple Grammy Awards and chart hits over several decades.
Yet for many fans, he will always be remembered for "Beauty and the Beast," the beloved Disney ballad he recorded with Celine in 1991.

A Little-Known Moment Behind an Iconic Song
While remembering Peabo's legacy, Celine focused on something far more personal than awards or chart success. She reflected on the period when they recorded "Beauty and the Beast" together — a moment that arrived at a crucial stage in her career.
Before becoming one of the world's biggest music stars, Celine had primarily performed in French. She was still adapting to recording songs in English when she entered the studio with Peabo.
That experience could have been intimidating for a young artist stepping into a new market. Instead, Celine said Peabo helped put her at ease.
"He was so wonderful and generous to me all those years ago, when we recorded Beauty and the Beast. He made me so comfortable, as I was just learning to sing in English."

The Song That Changed The Duo's Lives
The timing of that support would prove significant. "Beauty and the Beast" became one of the defining songs of both artists' careers and helped introduce Celine to a much wider audience.
The soundtrack for Disney's animated classic earned seven Grammy nominations at the 35th Annual Grammy Awards and won four trophies.
Among those wins were Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or Television for Peabo and Celine's duet.

The soundtrack also made Grammy history by becoming the first animated film soundtrack ever nominated for Album of the Year. For Celine, the song represented another major milestone.
The duet earned her first Grammy Award in 1992, just two years after the release of her first English-language album.

In a previous reflection on the song, Celine credited "Beauty and the Beast" as one of the most important duets of her early career, saying it gave her a major boost during those formative years.

Why She Never Forgot
As her tribute continued, Celine explained why Peabo's memory would remain so meaningful to her.
"He will remain for me always as a real symbol of the joy that music has brought to my life," she wrote. "His voice and his talent will be missed..."

She concluded by extending her condolences to his family. "My heart is with your family, and may you rest in peace, Peabo." Signing off the message, she added: "Love, Celine xx."

More than 30 years after Peabo helped put her at ease in the recording studio, that memory was among the first things Celine chose to share after learning of his death.
Her tribute offered a glimpse of the kindness she experienced firsthand — a quality that many others would soon remember as news of the singer's passing spread.

His Final Posts Showed Him Doing What He Loved
The loss is especially poignant given how active Peabo remained in the months leading up to his death. His social media posts from 2026 showed the singer continuing to perform for audiences around the world.
In January, he shared an Instagram video inviting fans to attend an upcoming concert in Philadelphia. "Who's coming to see me in Philly??" he wrote. "Tickets are still available!!"
A month later, Peabo posted photos from a performance in Jakarta, Indonesia. Thanking concertgoers for their support, he described the experience as "incredible" and said he could "feel and see all the love."
Peabo also celebrated his 75th birthday in April, surrounded by family and friends.
Photos from the gathering showed Peabo smiling beside large silver "75" balloons, posing with loved ones, and celebrating with a custom cake marking the occasion.

His final Instagram post offered a more personal glimpse into his life. Shared in early May, the video showed his young son, Robert "Kit" Bryson, joining him onstage during a concert in Atlanta.
"Super proud Dad moment from last nights Gig in Atlanta ♥️," Peabo wrote. "Keep shining Kitt 🫶🏾✨."
Looking back, the posts captured a performer who was still touring, connecting with fans, and embracing family life well into his seventies.
The Little Boy Who Became Part of His Final Chapter
The appearance of Peabo's son in his final Instagram post carried special meaning.
The Grammy winner welcomed Kit in 2018 while in his sixties. Announcing the birth on X, Peabo described the child as "a new life, a greater love and God willing, a extended legacy."
Months before Kit's arrival, Peabo reflected on becoming a father to a son during an appearance alongside Tanya. "Yeah, so I have a daughter, but raising your own son is different because the dynamics are reversed," he said on Oprah.
Tanya jokingly predicted that her husband would not be nearly as strict as he claimed he would be. "He thinks he's gonna be like, super strict," she said. "He's gonna rain down hard on this little boy, and I'm like, you're gonna be butter when that baby comes along."
Years later, Peabo appeared to embrace fatherhood wholeheartedly, often sharing moments with his son online.
The Woman He Called 'The Other Half' of His Soul
Much of Peabo's later life centered on his relationship with Tanya. Before marrying the singer, Tanya built her own career in entertainment.
She was a member of the British R&B group The 411, which found chart success in the United Kingdom during the 2000s. She also appeared in several acting projects, including "Cells" and "Becky & Barry #theactorslife."

Peabo frequently shared heartfelt tributes to his wife. In a birthday message posted on Facebook in 2023, he called Tanya "the absolute love" of his life and described her as "the other half" of his soul.
Their marriage remained a cornerstone of the family life Peabo openly celebrated during his later years.

In a 2022 interview with Simply Buckhead, the hitmaker said he loved being a husband, father, and grandfather while continuing to write, record, and perform.
The publication described a busy life in Atlanta, where Peabo balanced touring with time at home and spoke proudly about his family.

"Love is the only true commodity worth anybody's salt," Peabo said at the time. "Love has never been so unpopular, and I'm still writing about it."
Peabo Once Credited His Wife With Saving His Life
The recent stroke was not the first major health challenge Peabo had faced. As reported in 2019, Peabo's team first announced that the "Feel The Fire" singer suffered a mild heart attack at his home two days before and had been taken to a hospital.
"He is currently listed in stable condition and is awake and responsive. Both his medical team and family are optimistic for a speedy recovery," a rep statement read at the time.

In a later statement, the legendary singer's representative assured that he was in stable condition.
"We are happy to report that Double Grammy/Double Oscar Award-winning balladeer, Peabo Bryson, is on his way to making a full recovery!" the statement read.
It continued:
"Mr. Bryson is still listed in stable condition and is improving, rapidly. The family continues to request privacy, but extends their deepest gratitude and appreciation to friends and fans for the outpour of love and support expressed throughout this experience."
The acclaimed singer took to Instagram shortly afterward to acknowledge the support he received and provide an update on his condition.
"First of all, I have to say THANK YOU to all of you for coming together and praying for me!!!" Peabo wrote, alongside a video of him sitting upright in his hospital bed.
He added: "I know and understand that we have a choice in this world and when I needed everyone the most, everyone came to together and said a prayer for my health and for that... I THANK YOU with a full heart of love and my family THANK YOU too!! I'm getting stronger by the day!"
Peabo had also publicly expressed gratitude to the people who supported him during the ordeal — especially his wife, Tanya.
In a May 2019 Instagram post, the singer revealed that his wife played a critical role during the medical emergency. He wrote, "This woman is my wife... She is my SHERO! This woman saved my life! Read that line again... 'She saved my life'!"
Peabo said his wife helped save his life by following instructions from a 911 operator during the ordeal. He also thanked fans for respecting his family's request for privacy and for keeping him in their prayers throughout the ordeal.
The post offered a glimpse into how deeply the experience affected the singer and how grateful he was for the support he received during his recovery.
In the final months of his life, Peabo continued to share the things that mattered most to him: music, family, and the son he proudly welcomed onto the stage beside him.
