3-year-old hands police officers a bag of marijuana and parents get arrested
Police officers received unexpected help from a toddler rider in the back seat during their routine traffic stop.
According to NY Post, the 3-year-old girl handed over a pouch of marijuana, drugs, and paraphernalia to the state troopers who stopped the vehicle. Her mother 33-year-old Megan Karl was a passenger in the front seat while her friend, 26-year-old Scott Hill drove the vehicle.
Police officers first noticed the child sitting in the backseat of a 2000 Saturn when it was pulled over by cops during an “occupant-safety” checkpoint on Route 32 in New Scotland, south of Albany. The officers found that the child was not in a proper child safety restraint.
The troopers found the front seat occupants making suspicious movements and when they rolled down their windows, the smell of burning marijuana was apparent.

One of the troopers questioned Hill while the other one checked on the child sitting in the back seat.
Suddenly, the 3-year-old reached for something under the front seat and pulled out a pouch. It contained a marijuana, a metal marijuana grinder, and a pipe, which had the remnants of the drugs as well.
“The little girl reached under the front seat and retrieved a zippered pouch. She opened it and held it up so the trooper could see the contents,” state police said in a press release, as per NY Post.
Further investigation led the troopers to discover an ashtray in the front seat, which also contained marijuana cigarette butts. Police reported that the drugs and paraphernalia belonged to Hill.
Hill and Karl were arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Hill was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.
Following the arrests, the little girl was handed over to the relatives entrusted with her care. The child-protective services were also immediately notified about the incident.
Police officers have often found themselves in a shocking situation when an arrest for something often turns into something completely unexpected.
Last year in April, a police officer from Georgia made a similar innocent stop but later discovered a stun gun disguised as a pack of cigarettes.
