Cher's new video of classic 'ABBA' song has a strong message about female empowerment

Cher released another remake of an ABBA classic in a new music video on September 18. The twist is she's not in it, but most fans don't mind.

The 72-year-old legend sent a strong message in the "SOS" video which featured a women-only cast, touching imagery, and solid color schemes.

Viewers might recognize musician Betty Who, comedian Sabrina Jalees, and actors Trace Lysette, Vella Lovell, and Rumer Willis. The star-studded remake is found below.

The video was a modern take of the original video complete with touches like gauzy close-ups and feathered hair.

The women freely took a front and center role, unlike, in Cher's opinion, the first production of the song's video.

She explained to the New York Times: "Benny [Andersson] took the girls and used them like instruments. Sonny used to do that to me. He would carve out a place for them in the songs, and they would fit in that little place.

She added: "But he didn't give them space to sing the way they might have wanted to."

Cher believed this was rectified in the remake. In it, the women show support towards each other, dare to look straight into the camera, and embrace one another in a moving display.

They wear classic '70s styles like ankle boots, jeweled clothing, chunky plaids, and lots of turtlenecks. Their face makeup is also reminiscent of the older decade.

Among others tracks in her new "Dancing Queen" album to be released on September 28, the artist did her own take of "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" back in August.

The cover's production came as a result of her guest-starring role as Meryl Streep's mother in the July 2018 movie "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again."

Just earlier this month, the iconic singer revealed past details about her own personal love life to Daily Mail.

She let fans in on her former fling and lasting friendship with A-lister Tom Cruise which started in 1985 after they connected through a shared condition, dyslexia.

The goddess of pop also admitted that despite breakups with her two late husbands Sonny Bono and Gregg Allman, she retains feelings of affection for them.

She commented on other past lovers including Val Kilmer, who shot her head "right off [her] body" with a kiss, and Gene Simmons, who she was "crazy about."

But one plain Joe named Rob Camilletti was able to steal Cher's heart. A bagel-baker who was 22 at the time, Cher described how "[he was] possibly the one true love of [her] life."
