Solange's teen son Julez looks almost as tall as his father in recent photo together

It seemed like yesterday when we all knew Solange Knowles’ son, Julez, as the cute curly-haired kid. That youngster is almost unrecognizable now as he’ll be towering over his dad anytime soon.

Daniel Smith, Knowles’ ex-husband, shared a photo where he and his son posed in front of a Tidal banner backdrop. The duo threw up hand signals as they matched in T-shorts and joggers. At 13, Julez already stands shoulder to shoulder with his father.

Smith and Julez were spotted spending some father-son time at Coachella in April, and one video showed them grooving to a live performance. In a 2014 interview with Bazaar, Knowles revealed that Daniel was a supportive co-parent.

"We co-parent really well. I'm able to say, 'I need to finish this album, can you step up and take care of the boy?'”

The “A Seat at the Table” singer married Smith in 2004 when she was 17, and he was a 19-year-old college student. They welcomed their son in October of the same year.

In a letter written last year and addressed to her teenage self, Knowles recounted her challenges as a teenage mother who also happened to lose her childhood friend:

“Seventeen will be the hardest year of your life. It will grow you up almost immediately. You will lose your best friend whom you love so much to gun violence in a single moment, and give birth to a new one within a year.”

“You will be terrified, and it’s ok that you don’t know what the future holds. Some people will count you out because of the decision you’ve made to bring another life into the world so young, but you made the decision out of love and will live with the decision in love.”

Knowles has since married her music video director husband, Alan Ferguson. The pair tied the knot on November 16, 2014.
