Solange Ábalos, a 34-year-old woman from Argentina, died on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at a gym in the Coronel Dorrego neighborhood of Mar del Plata. The tragedy occurred in the morning while she was exercising with her friend, Marina Aneley. The two had justf started working out again a few days prior.

According to Marina, who witnessed her death, Solange primarily wanted to lose weight because she wasn't comfortable with her size.

It Was a Low-Intensity Workout

Both friends requested gentle and controlled routines from the gym staff. "We told the instructors it had been years since we'd exercised because we both have four kids. So they gave us a really light workout," Marina explained to the media.

Solange and her friend would typically go to the gym in the mornings after Solange dropped her kids off with her mother. On that particular day, Marina explained that Solange had decided to go earlier than usual because it was her mother's birthday.

"She picked me up at 8:57. We arrived at 9:15. She went to the treadmill, and I went to the bike. After that, we did another exercise. We were supposed to do three sets of 15," she recounted.

Her Collapse

During a break in their workout, Solange told her friend she felt something was wrong. "She was sitting down, she grabbed my arm and said, 'I have a sharp pain in my head,'" her friend recalled. Those would be her last words before she collapsed.

At first, Marina thought Solange was joking, but when she saw that her friend wasn't responding, she quickly called for help from the gym staff.

Immediately, the gym instructor called an ambulance, activated the emergency protocol, and began CPR while being guided by a dispatcher over the phone. They also attempted to revive her with a defibrillator. However, by the time the medical team arrived, Solange had no vital signs, and there was nothing more that could be done. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Cheerful Young Woman

Marina and Solange met three years ago at a cumbia rock school. Since then, they had regularly attended events and social gatherings together. She described Solange as "very fun and very respectful, she really loved to sing. She didn't drink or smoke. Everyone who knew her loved her very much."

The news was a shock to everyone who knew her and to those who witnessed the event. A legal investigation will continue to determine if any other factors contributed to her death and, if necessary, to determine who is at fault.

Struggling with the Tragedy

"I don't understand God," wrote Ángel Garrido, one of her friends, on Facebook. "With so many awful people out there, he took you instead." He also shared a video of her from a dance class they took together.

Another video he shared showed them dancing to cuarteto music (a musical genre from Argentina) at a dance hall. "We will always remember you this way," he added, and went on to describe Solange as "cheerful, fun, a great dancer, and a great friend."

"It still hasn't sunk in and I can't believe it," wrote another of her friends, Pablo Heffling. "A great dancer. A great friend and, above all, a really good person. My little one, may God bless you and hold you in his glory. My condolences to the whole family."

"My soul is broken into a thousand pieces," said her cousin, Mariana Molina. "How could you leave me, my dearest cousin? You've left a huge void in my life, but I'll always have the most beautiful memories, the beautiful ones we always shared together 😢."

The autopsy later revealed the cause of this tragic event: a massive stroke. Our condolences go out to the family during this time of sorrow.
