Brandy shares photo with age-defying mother after doing her makeup
Brandy Norwood and her mother, Sonja, are positively glowing in a photo shared by the singer today. The Norwood women could easily pass for sisters.
In the close-up Instagram selfie, Brandy, 39, donned a colorful head wrap while Sonja, 67, wore her hair naturally curly and chose a pair of large hoop earrings.
Both women wore subtle makeup and bright smiles, and Brandy revealed she was responsible for their facebeat.
“We were bored, so I did our makeup.... love you Mommy,” the “I Wanna Be Down” singer wrote.
Her fans flooded the comment section with heartwarming words for Sonja, who is mainly responsible for steering the careers of her children, Brandy and her brother, Ray J.
“Two beautiful ladies. I see where you get your good looks from”- @audreyrise
“I’ve loved you from day 1. I remember being a little girl and seeing you and Ray J. perform in New Orleans at an event in Joe Brown Park. Your mom let Ray J. get close to the crowd but not you. I didn’t understand then, but I understand now. You have blossomed into a beautiful, classy woman. Your mom is a timeless beauty as well!!”- @lamaisondeclasse
“Beautiful! Now I see where you get that no aging gene from.”- @mskiki3000
A STELLAR REPUTATION
Sonja, a veteran talent manager, was appointed to the faculty of The Los Angeles Film School in March. With over 20 years’ experience in managing and consulting for artists- including Tameka “Tiny” Harris- Sonja is considered an invaluable asset to the prestigious school.
Hal Lieberman, the school’s entertainment business program director, said:
"Sonja's passion for music and entertainment coupled with her wealth of experience and industry knowledge will be invaluable to our students. We are thrilled to have her join The Los Angeles Film School and add her to our team of incredible full-time faculty and esteemed adjunct professors."
MOM KNOWS BEST
But Sonja been much more than Brandy’s manager. In a 2002 interview with Oprah, mother and daughter opened up about an abusive relationship the singer went through.
Brandy, who is also an actress, confessed that she suffered from low self-esteem and for a long time thought she was in love with her abuser. It was Sonja who drew her attention to the situation by buying her a book on verbal abuse.
“Every day I would ask her, ‘Did you finish that book?’” Sonja recalled. “When she finally finished it, she called me on the phone and said, ‘Mom, I'm being verbally abused.’”
There’s nothing like that mother-daughter bond. Brandy herself is a mother to 16-year-old Sy’Rai Smith, and she’s probably learned one or two things from her mom.
