Leisa and Mary Garris, two sisters from Charlotte, North Carolina, were the victims of a racist incident outside their apartment. The attacker lost her job after the video went viral.

The incident took place on October 19 when the sisters were waiting for AAA to jump start their vehicle in the neighborhood they live. All of a sudden, a woman identified as Susan Westwood, approached them clearly drunk.

In the videos that the sisters uploaded to social media, which contains strong language, Susan asked them why they were hanging out at the apartment complex, revealed how much she paid in rent, and repeatedly said that she was white.

CALLING THE POLICE

Apart from that, the drunk attacker kept asking the Garrises whether they live there or not and said that she would call 911 “to make sure there’s nothing going on here.” The sisters told Susan to leave them alone several times as they felt harassed.

However, she would not let them leave without making sure that they actually live there. At some point during the clips, Susan said: “Do I need to bring my concealed weapons too? This is North Carolina by the way.”

The attacker also said that she made $125,000 a year, trying to disparage the sisters. According to WSOC, Mary and Leisa felt “distraught” and “upset” about the situation as they consider they were targeted only because of their skin color.

CRIMINAL CHARGES

Daily Mail reported that the website of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office shows that there are four criminal summons that have been issued for Susan. She has two counts of communicating threats and two counts of simple assault.

GETTING FIRED

Charter Communications, the company Susan used to work and allegedly earn $125,000 a year, released a statement soon after the incident became viral revealing that Susan was no longer a member of their team.

"The incident recorded in Charlotte is a blatant violation of Charter's code of conduct and clearly disregards the company's commitment to inclusion and respectful behavior. As such, Ms. Westwood's employment with the company has been terminated, effective immediately," admitted Patrick Paterno, the Director of PR od the company.

ANOTHER INCIDENT

While attacking other people is one of the worst things that a human being could do, it was not the first time that something similar takes place. Paul Sheehan, a 54-year-old MBTA Commuter Rail employee from Boston, was caught on camera yelling at two motorcyclists who parked in his neighborhood because they were lost and trying to find their way back home.

After the altercation, the couple left. Later, Sheehan reportedly walked up the street several times calling them “animals” and other expletive words. The man was ultimately arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. He was released on personal recognizance.
