7 provocative Melania Trump outfits that put her in the center of controversies
Love her or hate her, the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, is a fashion icon in her own right.
But sometimes, she misses the mark with her outfits, either due to bad timing, being tone deaf to the plight of millions of Americans, or simply just the price tag.

1. Her "colonial outfit" while visiting Africa
For the trip, she chose a white pith helmet which drew severe criticism online for its association with colonial rule, something Africa is intimately familiar with.
2. The "I really don't care, do you?" jacket
She wore the popular Zara jacket earlier this year. While the jacket itself isn't the issue – it's a firm favorite among fashion bloggers and social media celebrities – her timing couldn't be more off.
Melania wore it while visiting a government immigration facility where children were kept after being forcibly removed from the parents at the border, and after the Trump administration received tremendous backlash for the facilities.
3. The "pussy-bow" shirt's terrible timing
The pussy-bow dress style has been a popular choice in the fashion industry for years, but again, Melania's timing didn't quite feel right.
She wore the elegant pink drinks days after a recording was leaked in which her husband the president said he could "grab women by the pussy."
4. Her $51,500 Dolce & Gabbana coat
A year later, Melania was spotted in a lavish Dolce & Gabanna coat with the exorbitant price tag for $51,500.
Her choice of outfit followed days after President Trump announced that the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare, would roll back support for the ACA.
5. Manolo Blahnik stilettos during Hurricane Harvey
On a visit to victims of the Harvey Hurrican back in August 2017, Melania chose a pair of black stilettos, giving the impression that she had no plans of pitching in and helping the victims.
It has to be noted though, that the first lady changed into sneakers before their plane touched down in Texas.
6. The $1,000 plaid Balmain shirt
She wore the red plaid shirt during a public appearance with the Boys and Girls Club Washington when she invited students to volunteer in the White House Kitchen Garden.
At the time, a Twitter user remarked: "Just stating the obvious – why not wear a $20 shirt and donated $2,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs."
7. Copying Beyonce's look
Social media was abuzz when Melania wore a white hat reminiscent of Beyonce's Formation outfit, except in white, while visiting the French first couple back in April.
The hilarious response to her out can be seen in the comment section of this tweet.
