Pippa Middleton’s baby's name revealed, and it’s an emotional tribute to her father

Pippa Middleton and her husband James Matthews welcomed their first child together on October 15.

The child was born weighing 8lb and 9oz at the Lindo Wing, at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington.

On Sunday, the couple revealed their child’s name. One of the names given to the little boy is in honor of his late uncle and Middleton’s father.

Pippa Middleton, 35, and James Matthews have named their son Arthur Michael William Matthews. The little boy’s middle name was meant to honor two family members.

James’ brother passed away in 1999 while climbing Mount Everest. Michael went missing on the mountain's Death Zone while trying to become the youngest Briton to climb the world’s highest peak.

After his death, James and Middleton started the Michael Matthews Foundation. The organization aims to fundraise for poverty-stricken areas in Africa and Asia.

In September, James’s younger brother Spencer Matthews also chose to honor his late brother. Spencer named his son, Theodore Frederick Michael.

The name Arthur was one of the contenders for Middleton’s older sister Duchess Kate’s third child. Kate and Prince William gave their son the name Louis and his middle names are Arthur Charles.

In April, rumors circulated that Middleton was pregnant. The news came shortly before Kate gave birth to Prince Louis.

Middleton only confirmed the news in June while writing her fitness column for Waitrose’s Weekend magazine.

She met her husband in 2006 on the Caribbean island of St Barts and they got engaged in July 2016 and married in May 2017.
