Barack Obama surprises wife Michelle with flowers while on her book tour
On Saturday, former First Lady Michelle Obama was at the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC, to promote her new memoir “Becoming.” The audience was in for a treat when a surprise guest was announced.
When Michelle’s husband, former President Barack Obama came out with a bouquet of flowers the audience leaped to their feet with screams of joy. That prompted Barack to compare himself and his wife to another famous couple.
Michelle Obama, 54, was promoting her memoir "Becoming," on Saturday night with her longtime friends and former White House advisor Valerie Jarrett moderating the event. As they spoke, the conversation moved to Michelle speaking about her husband, Barack Obama, 57.
That’s when Jarrett announced that there was a "special guest." Barack Obama came on stage carrying a bouquet of pink roses for his wife.

Barack joked about the reception of his entrance at the arena. He said:
“This is like, you know, when Jay-Z comes out during the Beyoncé concert... Like, ‘Crazy in Love’?”
Barack added, “It’s the same thing. It’s just a little sample to enhance the concert.” Jarrett then asked him about how he and his wife had met.
The former president shared how early on, Michelle had tried to set him up with some of her friends, whom he wasn’t interested in. Michelle responded by saying, “Don’t go there,” which elicited laughter from the crowd.
The couple had met in 1989 the Chicago law firm Sidley Austin. At the time, Michelle had been assigned the role of Barack’s mentor.
The former president also shared what had drawn him to Michelle saying:
“First of all, she’s really tall, and most of it was legs.”
The former first lady joked in response, “There are children here.” Barack counteracted her by adding, “I’m just saying … it was impressive. You know when you meet somebody and you feel like they get it?”
Michelle is currently on a 12-stop book tour promotion which started last Tuesday. Her first stop was for a sit down with Oprah Winfrey at the home arena of the Chicago Bulls.
