Michelle Obama’s memoir may be gaining mileage lately for the serious issues she presented, but it’s now come to our attention that the former First Lady also wrote about how awkward things were for her daughter, Malia on prom night. Thanks to her uncool parents.

SETTING SOME GROUND RULES

In 2015 while still First Lady, Michelle learned her daughter was excited to go to prom because a boy she liked invited her. Making sure her parents wouldn’t embarrass her when the guy dropped by to pick her up, Malia told them,

“Just be cool please, okay?”

Knowing how important the night was for their daughter, Michelle and Barack Obama broke protocol and allowed Malia to ride in her date’s car, provided the Secret Service trailed behind them.

Michelle recalled Malia’s date “gamely - bravely –walking into the Dip Room dressed in a black suit” to meet them. Around that time, Malia asked her parents to be cool.

EXCRUCIATINGLY EMBARRASSED

Michelle observed Malia was starting to become embarrassed. She wrote,

“Her embarrassment [had] already [begun] to smolder as we rode the elevator downstairs. I was barefoot, and Barack was in flip-flops. Malia wore a long black skirt and an elegant bare-shouldered top. She looked beautiful and about twenty-three years old.”

According to Michelle, their encounter with Malia’s date turned out well despite her daughter’s recollection of it being “a bit excruciating.” Malia laughs at it now.

THE "SECRET" TO THEIR STAYING COOL

Michelle thought she and her husband managed to pull off being cool. She admits it was greatly due to the assurance that Malia was being supervised by Secret Service the whole night.

“We took what was perhaps unfair comfort in the knowledge that Malia’s security detail would basically ride the boy’s bumper all the way to the restaurant where they were going for dinner before the dance and would remain on quiet duty throughout the night.”

THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS NOW

Today, Malia is 20 years old and living a more independent life now that she no longer resides in the White House. In November 2017, she was spotted kissing her British boyfriend, Rory Farquharson. This summer, she vacationed with him in Europe.

The former first daughter has also been criticized due to her actions. Apart from haters accusing her of being “too young” to be in a relationship, she was more recently slammed for vaping on an e-cigarette. She was caught on video inhaling the device while with her boyfriend outside the Bridge Theater in London. An online debate ensued on whether she was doing anything wrong. This didn’t seem to mind Malia or her parents who never responded to the issue.
