Baby fighting for his life after being savagely bitten by parents' bull terrier

Less-than-a-month-old Reuben McNulty is in critical condition at the Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, the UK, following an attack by a Staffordshire Bull Terrier in his home on November 18.

The newborn’s parents, 31-year-old Dan McNulty and 28-year-old Amy Litchfield, are staying by Reuben’s side without interruption after being released by the police on bail, as Mirror reported.

Cambridgeshire Police arrested Dan and Amy on suspicion of child neglect after the attack was reported to the authorities, but the case is subject of an ongoing investigation.

The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday morning in the family home in Yaxley. Read more on our Twitter account @amomama_usa

"The kid is not good, bless him. Even the parents are in a bad way. They're in bits, they're devastated,” the baby’s grandfather Paul Litchfield told The Sun outside the residence.

Paul also defended his daughter and his son-in-law from people who have portrayed them as “horrible parents” and called the entire thing a “big freak accident.”

A long prison sentence can be expected for the owners of a dog if the animal injures or kills someone. For now, the two dogs remain in police custody.

"If they were horrible parents they wouldn't be sitting with that young lad now. People need to realize there's always two sides to the story,” he said.

While Paul said that the two Staffordshire Bull Terriers owned by the couple, named Fizz and Dotty were docile animals and never showed any dangerous behavior before, some neighbors seem to have a different opinion.

"I have seen those dogs before and they are vicious and will show their teeth at anyone," an unnamed neighbor said.

Under UK law, an individual could face an unlimited fine and/or be sent to jail up to six months if their dog gets out of control and becomes a danger to others.

In a similar piece of news, back in July, a 6-year-old girl from Arlington, Florida, was also hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after suffering a dog attack in her home.

In the afternoon of the same day, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office declared that the child had been put in a critical condition and that homicide detectives were leading investigations.
