The Queen has passed on two patronages to her granddaughter-in-law Meghan Markle

Duchess Meghan will be taking on two new patronages as part of her duties as a member of the Royal Family.

Like every other member of the Royal Family, Duchess Meghan of Sussex will be taking on the duties and responsibilities of supporting organizations that work for the good of the community, to further education, and human rights.

Kensington Palace announced that Her Majesty, The Queen, has passed on two patronages to her new granddaughter-in-law: the National Theatre and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

MEGHAN TO BE PATRON OF 4 ORGANIZATIONS

The Duchess of Sussex's work will be centered on four organizations that mirror her long-held concerns and charitable activity.

She will be working to promote the arts, access to higher education throughout the Commonwealth, women's issues, and animal welfare.

WORKING WITH THE NATIONAL THEATER

Duchess Meghan, as all well know, was a successful actress in a hit TV series, "Suits," but her original training was for theater arts. Embracing the prestigious National Theatre will be a welcome connection to her former work for the Duchess. The Queen was the National Theater's patron for 45 years, and is now placing it in Duchess Meghan's hands.

A PASSION FOR EDUCATION

Like Her Majesty, Duchess Meghan is a staunch advocate for higher education and its ability to transform lives. She will be taking over the patronage of the Association of Commonwealth Universities from the Queen who has held that role for 33 years.

The Association is the world's oldest international university network, and promotes higher education in the 53 countries belonging to the Commonwealth.

The Duchess of Sussex's work will be centered on four organizations that mirror her long-held concerns and charitable activity.

HELPING VULNERABLE WOMEN FIND JOBS

An organization whose aims are close to the Duchess' heart is Smart Works. Smart Works helps vulnerable women struggling with long-term unemployment to acquire the skills with which to enter the competitive job market.

The organization provides women with support in preparing for job interviews and regain their confidence. and take control of their own lives.

SUPPORTING AN ANIMAL SANCTUARY

Duchess Meghan has also become the patron of The Mayhew Animal Home & Humane Education Centre. Mayhew is a charity that was established in 1886 as a shelter for London's starving dogs and cats.

In addition to sheltering abandoned and abused animals, Mayhew works closely with the community services providing advice, care and assistance to animals and their carers.

It looks as if the Duchess of Sussex is going to be extremely busy being a Royal Patron, and a mother.

THE DUKES OF SUSSEX'S FIRST ENGAGEMENT FOR 2019

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are back at work after the Christmas holidays.

Kensington Palace has announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will travel to Merseyside next week, and visit Birkenhead in the Wirral on January 14, 2019.

The Royals will be meeting with the representatives of local organizations that "support and empower groups within the community."

Of special interest to the Duchess will be a visit to Tomorrow’s Women Wirral, an organized group that supports vulnerable women – a cause close to Duchess Meghan's heart.

The Duke and Duchess will meet members of the community in Hamilton Square where they will unveil a new sculpture marking the 100th anniversary of the death of Birkenhead war poet Wilfred Owen.

In a related story, Duchess Meghan visited a struggling community to support a project for a community kitchen.
