The fall season finale got a lot of fans heartbroken. The emotional episode showed Matt's house catching fire in what can be termed the most significant accident of the series. Fortunately, in the new season, no one got hurt in the disaster; but the building was left in ruins.

The combustion was ruled arson; leaving everyone to wonder who wanted the house destroyed. The law enforcement is working on finding who the culprit is.

In one of the scenes, Matt was inside what remained of his home; trying to get his hands on anything useful when Naomi came over. The investigative reporter told her lover she just got a job in Zurich, and it requires her to move.

This meant breaking up, and the couple had to end their romance; although they planned to remain friends still.

Kate confirmed she was leaving the show in a heartbreaking post shared on her Instagram account. The actress captioned it:

"so, so, so fun playing Naomi on @nbcchicagofire but girl has a plane to catch to Zurich! #byeeeeeee #tvcrush."

Naomi's excuse to Matt was that the job was an excellent opportunity for her career; most fans of the show didn't buy it.

Lovers and well-wishers of the series had taken to Kate's page to show their displeasure at her departure. One of the comments read:

"So sad to see Naomi go. You’ve done an outstanding job with her. I'm looking forward to seeing you again soon as Naomi or whatever else it is you do."
