'The Real' co-hosts finally break silence to address rumors they are feuding over salary gap
The four co-hosts of "The Real" sat down on their show to finally settle the rumor about their alleged salary gap feud. Jeannie Mai, who is reportedly gunning for a raise along with Adrienne Houghton, led the discussion and finally revealed the real score.
The hosts of “The Real” have addressed the issue concerning their alleged feud over their salaries. During their recent episode, the four ladies - Tamera Mowry, Loni Love, Jeannie Mai, and Adrienne Houghton revealed once and for all what’s really going on.
THE ALLEGED FEUD
Before we disclose what the hosts said about the issue, here's a recap of the story behind their alleged feud.
According to the Daily Mail in December, an insider in the show spilled about a growing rift between Mowry and Love on one side and Mai and Houghton on the other. Mowry and Love were reportedly earning higher salaries than Mai and Houghton who are allegedly clamoring for a raise.
The insider suggested Mowry and Love refused to help their two co-hosts in lobbying for a raise which created a rift between both camps. Mai allegedly labeled the warring camps, “The Haves and Have Nots.”
Interest in a raise was also encouraged by their show’s recent Emmy win. When Mai and Houghton learned that they weren’t being compensated fairly, they reportedly planned to stage a walk-out.
MORE FUEL TO THE FIRE
This silent feud was said to have blown up in September when Mowry and Mai got into a heated argument over the sexuality of Sesame Street’s Bert and Ernie.
There was also an issue about the ratings of “The Real” spiking up during Mowry’s absence in November while she was grieving the loss of her niece. This raised the question of why she’s the highest paid host among all four.
THE REAL SCORE
On Tuesday, the hosts finally broke their silence and addressed the issues rumored about them. Mai brought it up and recounted what happened after news broke of their alleged feud.
“Let me tell you, what I love about our unit is the second we heard that [the rumor], we immediately got on the chain and called each other. I left you voice mails and video messages coz it was important for us to make eye contact to be like ‘You good? Are you ok?’ "
Houghton interrupted and revealed she was actually in Mowry’s room yesterday “doing some things that are very friendly." She immediately realized her words sounded different so she clarified “no, no, not like that” while her co-hosts laughed.
Mowry affirmed what Houghton said and offered, “you were sharing some things.”
Houghton continued,
“Yeah and you’re just like, then the next day stuff like this comes out and you’re like…the crazy part is you almost have to ask yourself who would believe this? But sadly people do.”
Love put in her two cents worth and said if the rumors were true, it would come straight from her.
“If this is coming from me or any of these ladies, it’ll be coming from us. We will tell you right here on this show if there’s an issue.”
Mai ended the discussion by thanking their viewers who support them and stand up for them because they “know what’s real.”
Here's the clip from that discussion that shuts down the rumors once and for all.
