'A Star Is Born' gets snubbed again as ‘Black Panther’ cast celebrates the top honor award
There is no doubt that Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga shined in their roles, but ultimately, "A Star Is Born" lost to the 18th movie from the Marvel Universe, "Black Panther," at the SAG.
No statuettes were awarded to any of the star-studded cast of "A Star Is Born," much to everyone's surprise at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Marvel's "Black Panther" movie dominated the SAG, winning the night's highest honor, Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
Gaga (32) and Cooper (44) were both nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male/Female Actor in a Leading Role as well as Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
Sam Elliott (74) was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role. None of them picked up a win.
At the 2019 Golden Globes, the movie took home just one award after being nominated for five. It was Best Original Song for the single "Shallow," written by Gaga together with Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt, and Anthony Rossomando.
A week later, the track won again at the 2019 Critics Choice Awards, getting the Best Song award, while Gaga also scooped Best Actress.
The film, Cooper’s directorial debut, was nominated for 8 Academy Awards. Cooper is up for Best Actor after missing out on a Best Director nomination and Gaga for Best Actress.
Elliott was nominated for Best Supporting Actor and the movie has also been nominated for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Sound Mixing.
Cooper also won Best Director at the National Board of Review, presented by none other than Steven Spielberg.
While Gaga was reportedly initially disappointed at losing, she was soon seen holding hands with fiancé Christian Carino and was ever the gracious loser. She once said of him:
"The best part about being in love with someone is having them there to catch you if you fall.'
Bradley Cooper attended the awards evening with his mum Gloria Campano. The mother of his daughter, Irina Shayk, is currently working abroad.
Shayk, a Russian model, was spotted in Moscow attending a Marc Jacobs event after making an appearance at Paris Couture Week.
