B. Smith’s step-daughter claims friends like Whoopi 'know nothing' about B.'s real condition
Dana Gasby, the 32-year-old step-daughter of Barbara “B” Smith, said that the TV host’s “fraudulent friends” like Whoopi Goldberg didn’t know anything about her condition.
Unfortunately, 69-year-old Barbara was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2013, a condition that has slowly weaken her health. In an interview Dana had with People, she revealed that her step-mother became a “physically strong toddler who speaks in gibberish.”
Apart from that, she and her father, Dan Gasby (their only caregivers), sometimes have to force her to shower and to use the toilet, proving how critical her condition is.
FINDING A NEW COMPANION
Dan, 64, felt depressed while looking at how Alzheimer slowly took the love of his life away from him. After a while, he started a relationship with Alex Lerner, 53, who also helps Dan and Dana take care of Barbara.
The man set clear that he is in love with his girlfriend, but that he loves Barbara, too, “it’s just a different type of love now.” Unfortunately, several people consider that what Dan is doing is completely negative as he is “betraying” his marriage vows.
CRITICIZING HIM IN “THE VIEW”
One of the people who criticized Dan was “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin, who said that she and Barbara were friends and that she couldn’t agree with Alex having her own bedroom in what was supposed to be Barbara and Dan’s house.
Another member of “The View,” Whoopi Goldberg, also shared her negative thoughts on Dan but for a different reason. According to the actress, Dan shouldn’t have let “The Washington Post” take video of Barbara in her current condition as she didn’t want to see her friend like that.
DEFENDING HER FATHER
Dana, however, fully supports her father’s decisions and defended him from Whoopi and Sunny’s remarks, calling them “fraudulent friends” and pointing out that they knew nothing about Barbara’s condition.
“I have not seen them here. They don’t call my family. I see them talking on TV and how do you know what your supposed ‘friend’ would want?” revealed Dana, who has been living in her parents’ home for three years already to take care of Barbara.
DEFENDING HIMSELF
Following the heavy backlash he received for having a girlfriend while tending to Barbara, Dan broke his silence and lashed back at his critics in a Facebook post.
“I only wish someone in your immediate family has Alzheimer’s so you can see feel and experience the pain of millions of people across this country so you can know first hand what it’s like to care 24/7/365 for someone who can no longer care for themselves!”
Apart from that, he confessed to People that Barbara told him to “live, to go on.” Dan and his girlfriend Alex are expected to appear on “The View” to defend themselves, too.
