Five children charged with homicide for killing Nashville-based musician Kyle Yorlets in front of his house
Five underaged people involved in the murder of Kyle Yorlets, a 24-year-old member of the Nashville-based band Carverton, after he refused to fork over his car keys.
According to the Nashville Police Department, the five suspects – 16-year-old Decorrius Wright, 15-year-old Diamond Lewis, 14-year-old Roniyah McKnight, a 13-year-old boy, and a 12-year-old girl – were hiding inside a stolen Chevrolet Colorado pick-up truck in an alley close to the victim’s home.
The reason only three children are named is that the Tennessee Law states that children over the age of 13 charged with homicide can be identified. The identities of the remaining two cannot be disclosed.
DETAILS OF THE CRIME
As soon as the children saw Yorlets in front of his house, they “interacted” with him before they robbed his wallet and asked for his car keys. The singer reportedly refused, and they shot him. Even though his injury was fatal, the man managed to get into the house.
Once there, one of his housemates took him to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but it was too late as he was pronounced dead. He passed away on January 7.
THE ARREST
Thankfully, police found the stolen pick-up truck and, due to their investigation, they arrested all five children at the West Nashville Walmart.
Officers also recovered a 9-mm pistol (which has been reported stolen), a Hyundai Santa Fe (the vehicle they used to get to the store), and another piston which was reportedly stolen, too.
THE BAND’S STATEMENT
Soon after Yorlets’ passing, his bandmates took to Twitter to share their condolences.
“We are in a state of shock and are having to grasp the reality that is now in front of us. We are heartbroken. Our condolences for his family and loved ones and all the lives that he touched. We will never forget Kyle, and though he is gone too soon, his legacy is here to stay.”
The band also started a GoFundMe page to pay for the victim’s family travel expenses, funeral-related bills, and “any other expenses that may arise during this awful season of their life.” So far, they have got more than $29,000.
ANOTHER UNDERAGED PERSON COMMITTING A CRIME
Unfortunately, it is not the first time that a minor is arrested. A Wisconsin 10-year-old girl was charged with first-degree intentional homicide after she stomped on an infant's head.
According to Chippewa County Sheriff James Kowalczyk, the girl was holding a six-month-old baby but dropped him. The child started crying and, out of panic, the girl stomped on him to make him shut so she wouldn’t get in trouble.
