Richard Gere reportedly revealed the name of his newborn son, and media called it 'traditional'

Richard Gere and Alejandra Silva finally made their newborn son’s name public, and it's strong and very traditional.

It is the couple’s first child together, and the new parents are beaming with pride, while both have a son from their previous relationships. Richard’s son, Homer James is 18, and Alejandra’s son Albert is six years old.

Although the exact date is unknown, the couple welcomed their new bundle of joy into the world earlier this month in New York.As a nod to mum Alejandra, the couple named their son Alexander, as the Spanish translation of Alexander is Alejandro, according to HELLO!’s sister publication HOLA!

69-year-old Richard and 35-year-old Alejandra started dating in 2015 and got married after her divorce got finalized in April 2018. The couple had a civil ceremony in Spain before they celebrated with family and friends on Richard’s ranch outside New York City.

Shortly after, Richard and Alejandra shared wedding photos with HELLO!, during which Alejandra said:

"I feel like I'm in a true fairytale. Without a doubt, I feel like the luckiest woman in the world."

Since Richard sent Alejandra flowers until she agreed to a date, he was over the moon as he

"I'm the happiest man in the universe. How could I not be? I'm married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, who's fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who's a great cook – and who makes the best salads in the world!"

In September 2018, the couple confirmed that Alejandra is expecting and the soon new mother to be couldn’t help share some pics of the baby bump on Instagram, even though Richard and Alejandra keep their private lives out of the spotlight.

Because Richard is a Buddhist, Alejandra also shared a special photo of herself and Richard when they met with the Dalai Lama. A longtime friend of Richard, the Dalai Lama got pictured with a hand over Alejandra’s baby bump to bless their unborn son.

Being a Buddhist and prominent advocate for human rights in Tibet led to Richard being banned from entering China, but also to be blacklisted in Hollywood.

If one looks at Richard’s son Homer James, the resemblance is unmistakable and makes one wonder if little Alexander will take after Richard as well.

Also born in the month of February like his newborn half brother Alexander, Homer is all grown up and turns 19-years-old this year. Even though the divorce between Richard and Homer’s mum, Carey Lowell was less than amicable, Homer remains close to his father.
