Charo's longtime husband commits suicide at the age of 79, reports say

TV producer Kjell Rasten allegedly committed suicide at the Beverly Hills home he shared with wife, Charo.

The husband of exuberant Spanish-American singer and dancer Charo, Kjell Rasten passed away on February 18, 2019.

Police and paramedics responded to a call to the Beverley Hills home, and Rasten was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Yesterday, Kjell, My husband of forty years and the love of my life killed himself. There are no words to describe what we are feeling now.”

According to witnesses, Charo was in the house when the incident occurred at approximately 2 pm. The singer is said to have run from the house screaming and covered in blood,

Charo rode to the hospital with her husband in the ambulance, alongside the medical first responders.

Although a preliminary investigation indicates a suicide, the cause of death will be determined after an examination by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

KJELL RASTEN SUFFERED FROM A RARE DISEASE

On February 19, Charo posted an announcement of her husband's death on her Instagram account. She revealed that Rasten had been suffering from a rare and disfiguring disorder called Bullous Pemphigoid.

RASTEN WAS SUFFERING FROM DEPRESSION OVER HIS HEALTH

Charo confided that Rasten had been suffering from depression as well as the skin disease and that he had been upset about the medication he had to take and their side-effects.

POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING DEATH

The Beverley Hills Police has confirmed that they had received a 911 call from the Rasten residence and reacted accordingly.

Although a preliminary investigation indicates a suicide, the cause of death will be determined after an examination by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

No suicide note was found on the scene and the exact timeline of the incident is still unclear. Friends of Charo, 68, have appealed to the media to respect the difficult moment the family is going through.

A LOVE AFFAIR THAT LASTED 41 YEARS

Singer and dancer Charo, whose real name is María del Rosario Pilar Martínez Molina Baeza, married Kjell Rasten, in 1978 in a small ceremony in Lake Tahoe California.

The producer became his wife's manager, and in 1981 she gave birth to the couple's only child, Shel Rasten.

Charo has eulogized her late husband as "the love of her life" and described him as a wonderful man and the best father to their son.
