Serena Williams' husband reveals 'simple Sunday tradition' that keeps their marriage alive
Alexis Ohanian, Reddit co-founder and husband of tennis player Serena Williams, penned a letter to Glamour revealing details about the couple’s romantic life.
First, the man revealed that some husbands consider that he made them look bad because of the “extravagant gestures” he has with Serena.
Alexis named a few of those gestures, including a trip to Italy when the tennis player had a craving and the billboards he put up to celebrate her first tournament after giving birth to their daughter, Olympia.
THE SIMPLE THINGS ARE ESSENTIAL
However, he remarked that the simpler things, like showing up and being supportive, were the ones that mattered the most in a relationship.
He set clear that his parents influenced his partnership and relationship-wise personality. After telling how his parents met and what they went through, he said that they taught him how “to be supportive, to make compromises without sacrificing yourself, and how to show up in the ways that matter.”
Alexis even joked saying that he got the “cheat code” for having good relationships when he was very young. Later, the Reddit co-founder admitted that he and Serena couldn’t be together all the time due to their schedules.
HIS SUNDAY TRADITION
Thankfully, they “map out” their calendars at the beginning of every year to spend as much time together as possible. Alexis even revealed the “simple Sunday tradition” he learned from his father: making pancakes.
“When I was growing up, my dad would make pancakes every Sunday. They were delicious, but it wasn’t just about the food. It was about being together. So, on Sunday mornings I make breakfast for the family and it doesn’t cost me a thing, except for gluten-free flour (I had to modify Dad’s recipe a bit), some eggs, almond milk, a secret ingredient, and berries (Olympia loves raspberries),” wrote the man.
He later said that they spend the rest of the day together playing, swimming, and being a family, which meant a lot more for them than the billboards or the Italy trips.
OLYMPIA’S PARTY
At the moment, Alexis and Serena are focused on their careers, as well as in raising their only daughter in the best possible way. Recently, Serena took to her Instagram stories to share videos of the party they threw to Olympia.
In one of the clips, the tennis player set clear that they didn’t do birthday parties because of their religion (Jehovah’s Witness), but they threw one “just for fun.”
The videos showed a slide-house set without the slide that Alexis set up, a “candy store,” the pool, cakes, presents, and the guests, proving how fun everything was.
