When Jussie Smollett filed a report with the Chicago Police Department on January 29, 2019, alleging he was assaulted in a hate crime, celebrities like Shonda Rhimes, Viola Davis, Senator Kamala Harris, and even Nancy Pelosi offered support.

But now the tide has turned as Smollett is accused of staging the attack, and he is facing criticism from sympathizers like Cardi B.

"I feel like he f***d up Black History Month bro. Like damn. I'm not going to say yet until he said out his mouth at it was fake and staged."

ANGER AND CONFUSION GREET SMOLLETT'S ACCUSATION

Award-winning rapper Cardi B who had been one of Smollett's more vocal supporters, expressed her anger and her outrage when evidence was presented to a Grand Jury that the "Empire" singer has orchestrated the attack and falsified the police report.

"Why would you do that? Then you f****** give Donald Trump immunity to f****** laugh at n*****s and s**t."

She declared that she would hold off final judgment in case he was being set up by the Chicago Police Department, which is reputedly racist.

For his former supporters, Smollett's greatest crime is that he has now placed the credibility of real victims of hate crimes in question.

THE JUSSIE SMOLLETT INCIDENT

Smollett alleged that he was attacked in Chicago's Streeterville neighborhood by two white men in ski masks who made racial and homophobic slurs, and said: "This is MAGA country."

The men then "poured an unknown liquid" on Smollett and put a noose around his neck. Smollett was admitted to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for observation but was not seriously injured, and Chicago Police started investigating the incident as a hate crime.

POLICE INVESTIGATION REVEALS LIES

In the course of their investigation, Chicago police discovered evidence indicating that Smollett had paid two Nigerian brothers who worked with him in "Empire" $3,500 to stage the attack.

A search by Police found financial records that proved that the brothers had purchased the rope found around Smollett's neck at a hardware store in Ravenswood.

Smollett had claimed to have been a victim of a hate crime, attacked by two men wearing MAGA hats who poured bleach on him and put a noose around his neck.

The FBI is also investigating a threatening letter that had supposedly been sent to him at the "Empire" set and which contained a white powder which was later determined to be crushed painkillers.

If the letter is fake Smollett may face federal charges of mail fraud and can be sentenced to up to 5 years in prison.
